“Wow, this is so good.” Her voice is breathy as she wipes her mouth.

“Yeah, I love your cooking, but sometimes you just need a greasy diner burger.” I take a bite of my own burger and try to think with the head on my shoulders instead of the one between my legs.

I’ve never had this much of an issue, but right now I feel like a starving man, and she’s a five-course meal being dangled in front of me.

I really hope those other assholes are asleep when we get back. Next time I need to grab a room or the keys to one of the houses.

We eat and make small talk about literally nothing, but it’s so easy, and every smile is like a shot of serotonin.

We split a milkshake, the one she’d been eyeing on the menu since we first came in, even though she swears she couldn’t eat another bite. And by “split,” I mean I ordered it with two straws and took exactly one sip.

I don’t even like milkshakes, but I knew she wouldn’t order it for herself.

Her yawn lets me know it’s time to go, so I pay, and we head back to the truck.

“I want to bring Addy here soon. She’ll love the shakes.”

“You got it,” I tell her as I pull open her door, let her slide in, and close it behind her.

It’s late, and traffic isn’t bad, so we make it home in almost half the time it took us to get there.

It’s still kind of strange to think of this place as home, but the house doesn’t really matter, at least not to me. I’m happy so long as we’re all here and safe.

I half expect them to all be downstairs waiting, or at least the guys and Nico.

What I don’t expect is for the door to be locked.

Ifish my keys out of my pocket and have to do a double take when I see, or more accurately don’t see, the house key.

It’s missing…

No, it was taken.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” I grumble, shoving my keys back into my pocket to grab my phone instead.

“What?”

I press my thumb to the screen, and I’m not even surprised when I see a new message.

Nico is sleeping. The house is closed. The keys for the nanny house are in the mailbox. We'll see you in the morning.

I read the message twice before I fully comprehend what he’s said.

Turning to Kat, I find her watching me, confused, and I can imagine why: I know more, and I’m still pretty lost.

“Did you bring your keys?” I ask, and her lips pull down into a frown; I know she wants to push for an answer, but she doesn’t.

It’s stupid and not at all appropriate, but my cock jumps watching her eat her words and look for her keys as I bite back the sarcastic urge to call her a good girl.

“Um, I thought I had them, but I don’t see them. Maybe I left them in the truck.” She hooks her thumb over her shoulder back toward my truck. “I can go check real quick,” she says, dropping her hand and turning away.

“No.” I reach out, my fingers closing around her wrist to stop her. “It wasn’t you.”

She turns back toward me, her brows pinched in confusion. I hold out my phone to explain, watching her eyes move over Nathan's message.

It vibrates, and I watch her eyes dart up to the message that just came in, her eyes going wide and her cheeks heating before her eyes dart away.

Time to nut up or shut up.
