She didn’t deserve any of them.
His hands still, and this time he gets up off the bed, walking around to stand before me where I sit on the bed.
His eyes meet mine, holding my gaze, searching for a lie he won’t find.
“And I don’t deserve you.” I open my mouth to argue, but he levels me with a look that has me snapping my mouth shut. “But I’ll work my whole life to try and be worthy.”
“Oli,” he doesn’t let me finish, instead crawling onto the bed and scooping me up bridal-style.
“I love you, Kat.” I swear my heart nearly beats out of my chest at his words and the look on his face.
I’ll never tire of hearing any of them say it, but with Oliver, I never thought it possible to be here.
“I love you too, Oliver,” I say back, unable to keep the emotion from my words.
His answering smile makes me smile back; his happiness is contagious.
“I’ll love any baby you give us, but I can’t lie, I really want to be next.” He leans in, pressing his forehead to mine before rubbing his nose to mine in what Addy and I call ‘bunny kisses,’ and I nearly swoon. “I can’t wait to see the two of us in a perfect little baby.”
My mind goes crazy picturing a baby boy with his hair and my eyes and then a girl with my hair and his eyes.
“I can’t wait for you to be our wife.”
Pulling back, he presses a kiss to my forehead before he starts toward the door.
“Let’s go down and see the rest of them before I decide to keep you as my own present.”
“Oh, don’t forget the bow!” I tell him, looking back at the head of the bed where a pretty, velvet red bow sits. The last piece and the one that really ties it all together, if you ask me.
He moves back to the bed and grabs the bow, tossing it on my lap before he heads out the door and down the stairs. The house is still quiet, for now, that is. I’d guess we have maybe five minutes before the rest of the guys get here, and honestly I’m not sure I’ve ever been as excited as I am right now to go and find them, not that I don’t love this time with Oliver, but time together sounds… fun.
I’m not good at waiting, even less so when it’s for Kat.
Today had been perfect: skating, seeing the tree, time as a family, and most importantly, Kat had agreed to be our wife.
Fuck, that feels like a dream to even think about, but it’s not, not anymore.
So why is my future wife suddenly gone? Oliver as well.
Lucky bastard.
“Let’s go, asshole, stop moping,” Alex says, shoving my shoulder and pulling me from my thoughts and nearly knocking me to the ground.
“I’m not moping,” I snap back as I turn to follow him, even though I totally am.
The kids are in bed, and Nonna and Nonno are in the living room, reading by the fireplace with the monitors.
“We’ll be back in the morning. If you need anything, call. We’re just around the block,” Father tells Nonna, bending over to press a kiss to her cheek in a way of goodbye.
“Go enjoy time as adults.” She waves him off with a smile as I move to press a kiss to her cheek as well, with a chuckle.
The drive to the ‘nanny house’ takes less than a minute, but it feels like a lifetime.
“Would have been quicker to hop the damn fences,” I grumble as we turn down the street behind ours, slower than a turtle.
“And when you slipped and ate shit, you would have got to sit out,” Father says, sounding bored, but the smirk on his lips tells me how funny he actually thinks the idea is.
Asshole.
