“Raya has been helping us with the geography and sights to search for. Do you mind?” Gio asked, glancing at me. I forced my gaze away from her and back to the map in my lap, shrugging to hide my pounding heart.

She walked in and dragged a velvet chair from the side of the room. Her petite frame struggled with its weight as it caught on the carpet, and a memory flashed through my mind.

Her. Dragging the old, worn armchair across the bunker. I tried to get up to help, but pain shot through my body. ‘Don’t. If you open those damn perfect stitches, I’ll kill you.’ It made me smile.

The memory faded, but a persistent nagging voice remained, insisting this woman could make me happy. I blinked myself back into the room. Alessio had come to her aid and carried it over for her, placing it beside mine. She thanked him and sat down. I instantly found myself annoyed I hadn’t done it for her. Where the hell was this chivalry coming from?

A waft of her scent–floral, sweet and intoxicating–filled my space, as it had this morning. And just like this morning, I wanted to lean in closer and inhale a lungful. My dick stirred awake.

I cleared my throat and focused back on the map.

“The Irish soldiers we’ve tortured so far all said he was somewhere in Ireland, but they didn’t know where,” Alessio replied.

“They’re probably lyin’,” I said, keeping my eyes on the landscape. “Findin’ and torturin’ his men won’t work. McKenna runs his family like a corrupt corporation. He makes sure he has somethin’ on everyone so they’ll never go against him. He trusts only a few, and they’d never turn on him.”

“Who does he trust?”

“Oscar McCal, his second and closest friend. Four high-ranking soldiers.”

“Names?” Gio said, pulling out his phone to type them in.

“Donal Ramsey. Rick and Flynn McKenna, his cousins. Liam Norton.” I left Nolan’s name out on purpose. “Find one of them, and McKenna won’t be far away.”

“There’s no point looking for Donal Ramsey,” Raya interrupted, making us all look at her. She kept her gaze on Gio as she said, “He’s dead.”

When did that happen, and how? Donal was one of Sean’s favourites.

“Did I kill him?” I asked, hoping I had. I’d wanted to kill that fucker for years.

She turned to look at me, and once again I got lost in those eyes, which sparkled with a strange mix of innocence and mischief.

“No,” she replied with a wicked smile. “I did. But you handed me the knife.”

It took a few seconds to register what she said, but my dick seemed to react faster, hardening like steel beneath my jeans. I lowered the tablet onto my lap.

“What?” Gio gasped. “You killed someone?”

She turned back to her brother, flicking her curls over her shoulder and straightening her spine with pride. “Si. He deserved it. And now there is one less man for you to track down. You’re welcome.”

I rubbed my hand across my mouth, hoping to God these men were too distracted by their own shock to realise how turned on I was. Who the fuck was this woman?

Your Little Monster.

She said she was mine. Hearing those words awakened something deep inside me, a primal, possessive beast that demanded I grab her then and there to prove it true. I’d only been in her company for five minutes, and I was already losing my mind. A woman I didn’t remember. It had to be witchcraft. Because I don’t feel shit for strangers. I don’t feel shit for women. Except…

I dared a glance at her profile while Gio and Alessio carried on interrogating her about her kill, demanding details she stubbornly refused to give. My gaze travelled down the feminine slope of her throat, over the curve of her tits, and back up to those perfect lips. She started replying in Italian when the men lost patience to carry on in English for my sake. I gulped as the Italian fire in her emerged with every word.

My cock was throbbing. How long had it been since I’d fucked anyone? Had I fucked her? Shite. Forgetting that would be a travesty. With all the mental strength I had, I forced my head in the opposite direction and stared out the window, trying to find something else to distract me before my dick got me killed.

A bird I recognised settled on the branch outside.

“A Great Tit!” I exclaimed before I could stop myself. Their Italian conversation came to an abrupt halt as they all stared at me as if I’d grown a second head. “That bird. That’s the breed,” I muttered, feeling rare embarrassment rearing up inside me. Who looks like the fucking tit now, Maddox?

Soraya leaned closer to my chair to get a better look, while the men stared blankly at the bird.

“Do you know a lot about birds?” Alessio asked, clearly confused.

“No. Just that one. And pigeons.”
