“She is my best friend, she has been for ages, since before she was queen. I could not… What if I have put you in danger merely by being here? The mission could fail because any spy would recognize an advisor to the Queen. And if the mission fails, you’ll never go home and we’ll never get Emberrick back. And it will be my fault.”

“Why would we not get Emberrick back?” Oallian tilted his head, then his eyes lit up. “Is that your mission? Finding your Queen’s long lost husband? I would have done that without all of this drama.”

Connor frowned, then grinned. “Well, at least that explains the ham-handed matchmaking.”

I blushed, supposing there was no point in hiding the truth anymore. “My mission was Connor. Delsy does not trust that you can hold Vyranthos back without someone who can reach you.”

“And what do you think?” Oallian asked.

“I am starting to think she underestimated you. But I understand why. Emberrick disappeared without a trace, and she is afraid.”

Oallian was staring at the ceiling, expression confused. “I’d half assumed Emberrick was dead—”

Connor shot Oallian a look.

He cleared his throat, eyes darting to the side. “Dead wrong to marry a fae queen.” Then he winked.

“You’re ridiculous,” I whispered. “And he’s alive, they are bonded. Resonant. She would know if he was not because their life forces are linked.”

“Ah,” Oallian said. “Well, good for them! I mean, except for the part where he’s missing, that’s rather sad—”

“Oallian,” Connor said, standing and brushing off his trousers. “Turn down the bed. We need to help Kess.”

“Help Kess how?” I asked, blinking up at him. “Confessing my thoughts did quite a lot. I’m fine now, you can go do your report.”

“No,” Connor said. “I don’t think I will.”

Connor pulled me to my feet by the hands, and I went willingly, because it seemed I was nothing but willing in his hands. He unfastened the silver chains that decorated my torso, fingers skimming over my still-chilled skin and leaving trails of warmth as he worked each clasp, then lifted them gently over my head and coiled them on the nightstand.

His hands skimmed down to my waistband, where he carefully unbuttoned my breeches, touching my lower stomach as it was bared, then my hips. Warmth pooled there, soothing my magic more than he could ever know as I stepped out of my breeches and stockings and he put them gently aside.

“Everything off, Oallian,” he said as he coaxed me down onto the bed. “Cage included.”

Oallian was nude before he finished speaking, standing at the ready by the bedside, his big, warm cock hard and twitching against his stomach. “At your service, Sir!”

Connor shot him a look, lips twitching with amusement, then turned his focus back to me, settling me back against the pillows. “Here’s what’s true. Nobody in that building knows anything, except that a rich young wizard owns the two most beautiful creatures in Liminia.” His hands moved over my chest, my stomach, slow, mapping me. “The staring was want, sweetheart. They didn’t know you’re a dragon. You are impossible not to watch. I watched a man walk into a pillar because he caught sight of your jawline.”

“But—”

“But nothing. You have spent so long reading rooms for threats that you have forgotten there are other things a room can be full of.”

“You cannot know that,” I whispered.

“No. Not for certain.” His mouth touched my throat, my chest, working down. “But I know what I saw, and what I saw was pure lust. Nearly everyone in that room was human, like me. Trust me to know my own kind.”

“But they are wizards,” I whispered.

“Wizards who operate out of an establishment which seems to be a BDSM club. I’m a student of history, and everything I saw today told me they’re sure of their power and focused on other things than espionage.”

“What other things?”

Oallian scoffed. “Sex, of course. You can’t really be this daft, can you?”

Connor chuckled. “Oallian, busy your mouth with something other than calling Kessrin daft, please. Like perhaps his cock.”

Oallian leapt into the bed with enough enthusiasm that the mattress bounced violently. “It is a gorgeous cock. Every man and woman in that room wanted this cock, so I’m quite delighted that—”

“Oallian, mouth.”
