“Are you sore?” Elijah asked with more authority this time. He stepped into his jeans. “I’m sorry if I was too rough.”
Georgia put a hand up, her palm facing him. “Stop it. You were not too rough. I asked for more, and you gave it to me.”
But she avoided answering whether she was sore. Because the truth was she wanted to sit on a block of ice. Not one to be dramatic, but she needed some aspirin or something. Her virginity was finally nonexistent, and she couldn’t be happier.
Last night was perfect, pain and all.
“Why are you smiling?” an unenthused Elijah questioned her.
Wow, he went right back to being his typical butthead self.
She sat up, still in bed. The sheet didn’t cover her, but she wasn’t going to cower. Besides, this man had seen every inch of her, so it wasn’t like it mattered anymore. “I’m smiling because last night was everything I needed.”
He flinched before he responded. “You promised me you wouldn’t make this a thing. Last night was just about having sex.”
“Yes, you’ve made that abundantly clear in the past twenty-four hours.” Despite him acting like she was about to beg for him to marry her, she wasn’t letting anything bring her down. She had sex, and it was amazing.
“I didn’t use a condom,” he said with disdain.
She bit her lower lip.
“Which you obviously know since I wiped my come off your back,” he continued. “I’m clean, I get routinely checked, and I always use protection.”
“I am obviously clean too.” That felt pointless to say. “And I always track my ovulation and period. This isn’t a time I would be able to get pregnant either.”
“I pulled out.” He ran his hands through his hair in frustration. “But fuck, I should have used protection. I’m sorry. You deserve better than that. You know to use condoms when you fuck, right?”
“I may have been a virgin, but I’m also a doctor and well-versed on safe sex practices. It wasn’t only your responsibility,” she told him. His eye twitched like he was annoyed with her. Well, she wasn’t too pleased with him and his mansplaining. “I promise to use protection with my future partners.”
Elijah glared at her as if she said something to make him mad.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Nothing,” he told her, void of any of the sweetness he gave her earlier. “I need to leave.”
Elijah didn’t give her a chance to respond, not that she had anything to say.
But he jetted out of her bedroom like his butt was on fire.
Ugh, why did she have to want the emotionally unavailable man?
CHAPTER
SEVENTEEN
ONLY SEVEN DAYS. A week.
That wasn’t a long time.
Hell, Elijah went through a shift with three fires, five car accidents in the county, and four house calls, and he was still obsessed.
Every moment his brain wasn’t in firefighter mode, he was replaying his night with Georgia. The moans she made, how tight she felt, how responsive she was.
He’d jerked off more this week than he had all fucking year.
And Georgia Cross was the star of the show.
Lying on his bed, on day two of being off work, he closed his eyes thinking about her breathy voice when she begged him for more. Just like every other day since he’d been inside her, his dick got hard. Unable to stop himself, he gripped his hard length, wishing it was Georgia and not his hand. Before he could even stroke himself, his phone rang.
