Sofia ignored Alex, keeping her attention on Travis. Stayingfocused on keeping it business as usual around Alex. “It would ruinhim to have to think of his own travesty of a sex life.”

“Yeah right.” Travis defended his friend. “I still haven’t learnedwhere Alex disappeared to when Lucy got married. My bet was hefound some hot local and took her back to his room.”

“Interesting.” Sofia didn’t say much, but gave Alex a dark look. Not that her stare mattered, all he did was laugh.

Travis went into conversation about his career. He was alawyer at National Geographic. Nice of them to keep conversation moving because all Sofia thought was where the hell was Alexthe whole trip?

She texted him so their conversation would be private in frontof Travis. “I hope your rendezvous from Hawaii was okay with amediocre orgasm.”

Conversation flowed at the table without an interruption. Herphone buzzed, letting her know she had a text. And it better befrom Alex.

It was. Are you kidding me? I was chasing you around halfthe time.

She remembered with a smirk. At least someone wasn’t bored onvacation with you.

“You came three times the last time we had sex—that’s not mediocre or boring.”

Okay, so he was right. Either way, he wasn’t not having thefinal word and she wanted a reaction from him. “So you think.”

Alex laughed, making Travis give him a look, but they continued on with work gossip. Not that it stopped him from texting back.

“Baby, I know. Hell, my neighbors probably know because youwere screaming my name so loud”.

Sofia rolled her eyes. “You weren’t complaining.”

He was quick. “Not until you left.”

Travis seemed to have picked up he was left out of conversation. “Sofia is blushing. Who the hell gets an award for makingyou blush?”

She had the best response because to her, it answered Travis’squestion and Alex’s text. “A guy who is nothing but bad news.Coming from me, that says something.”

After a few more minutes of idle conversation, Sofia was readyto leave. There was no way she was getting close to feelings for Alexagain and being around him didn’t help the situation. She knewall too well the heartache that went with getting attached to Alex.

WHEN SHE LEFT, Alex relaxed. He hated this front from Sofialike nothing has changed. Ever since they had sex, everythingchanged. He wanted more to change, but Sofia was being difficult.

No surprise there.

Travis laughed.

“What’s so funny?”

Travis sipped his beer. “Oh, how the mighty have fallen.”Alex didn’t catch on. “Huh? What are you talking about?”“This is actually going to be the best part of my day.” Travis

was still finding the situation comical. “What is going on with youand Sofia?”

Silence was all Alex gave him.

“I get it, you don’t want to talk about it. Doesn’t matter thoughbecause I want to talk about. When you walked in and saw herand me together, I swear you were going to strangle me. Youwere pissed.”

“I was not,” Alex argued, unsure if it was true.

Travis kept going. “I get it, Sofia isn’t just hot as hell, she’s realtoo. She’s something you don’t come across all that often. Comeon, man, it was obvious you two were texting each other while I

Erin Lynne

was sitting right here. Something is going on because whatever youtexted her made her leave.”

Alex glared at his friend. “You’re blaming me for her grand exit?”
