She was thankful she grabbed another drink from the bartenderbefore she followed him like a stray dog begging for attention. Ugh, hewas so annoying. She bet Alex would require something stronger thana Pina Colada, but they were the only premade drinks. She had to dealwith Alex. It wasn’t the time to be choosy.

Per usual, they weren’t sitting down for even a minute beforeAlex verbally swatted at her. “Imagine my surprise you were still atthe reception.”

Then, to really piss her off, he took both of their shots of tequila.“I see you still relay on alcohol to talk to women.”

“Wrong. I think you had enough and you don’t need to make

a scene.”

Sofia swept her raven black hair off her shoulder, plotting hernext move like it was a game of chess. “Keeping track of me, are you?”

Alex sniggered coldly all the while making himself comfortable inthe chair. “Hardly. Everyone saw you flirting with the bartender, thatincludes my grandmother. I had to drag you out here so you stoppedlooking desperate. I didn’t want old granny to see what the youth isdoing these days to get laid.”

“Youth,” Sofia sat straight up planning her attack. “Something Iam sure you miss.”

“I am six years older than you,” he casually reminded her. “Perhapsyou are having concerns about aging. If it’s any consolation, I haven’tnoticed any new wrinkles.”

This was their game and Sofia had to play her cards right. Shenever showed her emotion, let alone to him. This was something shelearned the hard way. Sofia had to stay neutral and untouchable towin any battle with Alex.

“How kind of you.”

Alex stretched in the chair. “That’s me, nothing but kindness.”

“Given your track record, I guess I could say the same for you,”Sofia acted as if she didn’t have a care in the world. Like being at awedding was her idea of the perfect weekend. “I am surprised youhaven’t found someone to shack up with.”

He smirked. “I had a busy morning, but the night is still young.”

Sofia internalized how much his comment bothered her. Sheshould be adjusted to listening about Alex and his bed-hopping ways. Not that she could hold it against him, it wasn’t like she was a saint.Still, the man was a pig. He frequently traveled as a photographer andhad a different woman in every country. Like she said, he was so gross.

She never strayed from being completely indifferent when it cameto him. That or rude. It was worth it. “Poor thing.”

Alex lifted an eye brow. “Your concerned for me?”

Sofia gave him a direct stare to level with him. “I’ve seen you whenyou are busy, you’re like a fox in headlights.”

“You mean deer,” Alex corrected her.

She disregarded him. Deer or fox, it didn’t matter, both animalswould be shocked by the lights. “Point is, I hope the poor girl isn’t leftdisappointed. Having sex with you is traumatizing enough, but I hopeshe manages to orgasm.”

Alex dropped his beer, surprised at her comment.

Point for Sofia.

She picked up her Pina Colada from the table next to her andheaded back to the reception, knowing her work was done. Alexbelieved he would ruin her night. He lured her outside, just to getunder her skin, and it almost worked.

Almost.

She made it to the entry way back to the reception when Alexgrabbed her arm.

“What is that supposed to mean?” He didn’t bother to keep hisvoice down, but luckily the music was too loud for anyone to hear him.

Sofia yanked free. “It means I’ve been there. So again, poor thing.”

Alex grabbed her hand again, but with ease this time. “I don’tknow how it happens every time I want to talk to you about thatnight, somehow we get off topic. I need you to know, I didn’t mean tohurt you.”

Memories flooded over her. She had to get away or she was reallygoing to show emotion, which was something she promised herself shewould never do again. It was like today was the day she was breakingall of the promises she has made to herself. Especially the ones aboutthis man. It was a negative side effect from being around him. Wordvomit and the need to slap someone, Alex mainly, happened.
