Akari blushes and brushes a stray hair out of her face. “I am doing really well! Lord Sol has been extremely welcoming. He lets me do whatever I please. Most days I spend in the library or reading out by the ocean. Solara is a coastal city.”
Solara. I really ought to keep a record of the names of the cities in the Court. In fact, I would love to see a map of Faezgard. But I would come back to that thought later.
“That’s wonderful, Akari,” I beam. I am so happy that she has found happiness in this place. I hoped she would always feel so welcomed and accepted.
“Is this supposed to be your wedding or something?” a sneering voice pipes up.
Refusing to let Platinum’s bad mood get to me, I grab Akari’s hand and walk over to the petite blonde.
“That is exactly what I said.” I force myself to smile and laugh. If Platinum and I were to be neighbours and connected by our males, I might as well get to know her. Perhaps she wasn’t as bad as her snooty little nose suggested. “I’m Delta, by the way. What’s your name?”
Completely taken aback, Platinum stutters, eyes wide. Eventually, her shoulders loosen, and she relaxes her features, obviously coming to the same conclusion I had.
“Shannon,” she says. She holds out her hand, and I take it without hesitation.
“Shannon,” I repeat, eyeing her pretty floral dress. “You are in the Spring Court?” I remembered Draekoh commenting on her male after the Hunt had ended, but couldn’t remember his name.
“Yes,” she says. Her mouth wobbles as she decides whether to elaborate. Evidently, loneliness and the need for companionship win out. “I live in the City of Elyria with Lord Farryn.”
“Is he a kind Lord?” I ask hesitantly.
Shannon shrugs and looks away, but I swear I see the hint of a smile curling at her lips.
“Um, hello? I was told to join your group.”
I turn to face the exquisite young woman who hesitantly approaches us.
“Hello,” I greet her, smiling warmly. “Yes, please join us. We were just making introductions.”
Saanvi, as she introduces herself, is the youngest in our group. Barely seventeen, Saanvi hails from India, but now lives in the Day Court with Lord Rahaling. She also wears a slip dress, though hers is baby blue, which complements her rich skin tone beautifully.
“Does anyone know what this gathering is about?” Saanvi asks, eyes darting nervously to the gathered fae.
I shrug and glance at Akari.
“Lord Sol said something about the Light Court being a close-knit family,” she says with a shrug. “They gather every six months, or moons as they call them, apparently.”
“These males,” I sigh, “having to catch up to measure their dicks every 6 months because, you know, bragging rights.”
Akari and Saanvi snort, their cheeks blushing prettily. Even Shannon bites her lip at my comment.
“Except now they each have a woman to flaunt instead,” Shannon snipes, eyeing each of our dresses in turn. She lingers on mine a little longer than necessary, and I don’t miss her little smirk. “I wonder which one of us will be parading around with a swollen belly at the next gathering.”
Akari’s eyes widen and Saanvi chokes.
“Nice way to spoil the mood, Shannon,” I groan. And yet… “But you have a point. We are here as broodmares, it seems.”
Saanvi pales. It seems the fae in her Court were less forthcoming than mine, Akari’s and Shannon’s.
“They want—” Saanvi slaps a hand over her mouth as if her stomach was about to turn— “to have babies with us?”
I throw an arm over her shoulder and pull her in for a side hug. “It would seem so,” I tell her solemnly. “Apparently their females had become infertile over time, and they panicked. I guess human women are the next best compromise.”
“At least the fae are fantastic in bed,” Shannon grins wryly.
This time I join Akari and Saanvi in mutual shock.
Shannon’s brows rise. “Have… have none of you fucked your Lords yet?”
