I honestly didn’t think I’d match with Reed.

His profile says he’s another omega. He appears to be of East Asian descent, though I’m not sure. He’s got honey blond dyed hair and black tattoo swirls licking up his neck and I assume the rest of his body. The kind of hot that makes you speechless.

I know he goes to school here at White Pine Crest University. He’s a business major and apparently loves motorcycles, as most of his pictures are him on his bike.

I should have made my profile exclusive to alphas, since the whole point was to find someone to see me through my heat then part ways. But my gut wouldn’t allow me.

Maybe because I was meant to meet Reed? My own meant to be, just like my mom’s?

Esper, stop it, oh my god.

Esper

Hi!

Pressing the little blue arrow sends an internal cringe down my spine, but my screen was trying to turn off on me as I stared at his picture.

The man was fine. Like, five syllables of fine. His muscles and tattoos threatened to send my pre-heat symptoms into overdrive from the safety of my phone screen. His love of burgers and motorcycles was hot too. But now that I’ve initiated contact, my stomach twists with nerves.

Could I even sleep with a stranger? Would my body care that I didn’t know this man?

My phone pings, my screen glowing with his reply.

Reed

Hey

I guess I was dry as hell with that first text. Curling into my pillows, I throw a blanket over me as I start typing a reply.

Esper

Sorry, I’m nervous.

The bubbles pop up and then disappear and I’m thinking maybe I ruined it. Maybe I was too honest. Maybe I was—Oh, he answered!

Reed

yeah, this isn’t the most conventional

I’m nervous too.

I let loose the breath I was holding.

Esper

I haven’t done this before, but desperate times…

Reed

call for desperate measures.

Esper

exactly.

Yeah, I should delete my account. I obviously don’t know how to talk to people anymore.

Though it seems Reed doesn’t mind. He takes over the conversation. Asking me more questions about what I go to school for and how long I’ve been in Maine. I moved here for college as this was the only school that offered me a full ride. I moved here from a small town in Michigan and now I’m living the coastal college town life in Maine.
