My gaze finds the truck, hoping my eyes will tell Esper to drive away, get to our Pack.
But she’s not fucking there.
The driver’s seat of the truck is empty.
No.
My eyes are wild as I try to search for her over Rocker in my fucking view. His blows and my lack of air fall to the wayside of my mind.
My omega is gone.
Where the hell did she go? Was there someone else? Who the fuck?
I swing my leg back, kicking Lightning’s shin. Instead of trying to pry his arm off me, I’m swinging like a mad man at Rocker, but I’m too late.
I’m too fucking late. My hits do nothing. My brain is a haze. Dammit!
“Run,” I rasp, hoping like hell Esper, somewhere, hears me.
But she doesn't. No one does.
“Say hello to Mommy and Daddy, little shit,” Lightning says and pulls just that much tighter on my throat.
But an electric buzz fills my ears seconds before faint electricity sizzles up my back. Lightning jolts and goes down, bringing me with him.
“Fuckers,” my angel whispers and she’s fast, stepping over and going for Rocker next. His shocked face isn’t one I'll ever forget.
I roll off Lightning, twitching from the high fucking voltage, and I shake my damn head, trying to ignore the remnants of the charge and get my ass up.
“Omega—” Rocker tries to say who the fuck knows, but the zap from her taser drowns his words out. Esper isn’t playing any fucking games. I stand on shaky feet and see Rocker so narrowly misses Esper’s taser.
I swing, my weak punch just enough to throw him off balance as Esper swoops in to tase the fucker. She tases him for a long damn time too.
Hair shields her face, but as Rocker falls to the ground she turns onto Lightning, tasing his ass again until the thing stops.
The silence in the parking lot is loud. The emptiness of it is apparent as I look around. Only the two bikes and the truck are here.
“Let’s go, Trouble,” I say, wrapping my arms gently around her, turning her to face me. She finally looks up. A glint in her eye I know all too well.
A fight for your life—or I guess my life—will do that. She’s feral. Her omega is at the forefront, her eyes tinged with a wild glint and fuck she looks breathtaking. Her chest heaves as she breathes heavily. It takes her body a full minute before she falls into me.
I catch my omega,, carrying her bridal-style back to the car. I open the passenger-side door, gently placing her in, but she growls a cute fucking growl when I stop touching her. She launches out of the car, hands wrapped around me tight.
“We’re safe,” I murmur against her cheek. Rubbing my cheek against hers as I walk us over to the driver’s side and slide in. Locking the doors first, I then set her in my lap. She curls around me, her head resting on my shoulder and her legs bent with her feet resting against the door. “We’re gonna be okay.”
Once Esper wakes up from her nap in my lap, I pull the truck off to the side, after driving aimlessly for the last hour.
We both need time to come down from the fight. Once her breathing evened out and her hands on my chest relaxed, I could breathe normal.
I ignore the bruises forming on my stomach. They hurt so bad it's as if actual heat is radiating off of them. But I can’t let go of her. Even if I wanted to, I need her more than I need the pain to subside. I need her in my arms like my next breath and she knew it.
She’d move if she knew my stomach was on fire, so I focused on keeping my breathing nice and even so she wouldn’t be able to tell.
“I can move.” Her voice is low and soft, and I nod my head before realizing she hadn't moved her head from being tucked against my shoulder.
“Don’t.” I slowly lay back on the seat, adjusting us to lay as the sun sets. The warm orange and purple sky against the green hills of Maine’s countryside just outside White Pine Crest. “Please.”
She hums, stretching her legs out a bit as the radio plays at a low hum.
