“I might’ve before.” She shrugs. “But I think it makes sense now.”
Massimo grabs at the collar of my shirt.
I catch his hand before he manages to shove the fabric into his mouth.
“What changed?”
“A lot.” Her smile fades slightly. “It would be safer. We wouldn’t get to see the babies all the time, which sucks, but we can visit. And if there’s news about Valentina, we’re only a flight away. We can come back immediately.”
When there’s news.
When we find her.
Elena looks down at her hands.
“And your mom is there.”
I nod.
Mamá hasn’t been the same since Valentina disappeared.
None of us have.
“She needs family,” Elena says. “I know Ricardo is with her, but she needs more than that.”
“You’re right.”
“I know.” She smirks.
I smile. “And Elena Hope?”
Her entire face brightens. “Well, obviously I’m opening one in Florida.”
I chuckle. “Obviously.”
“It’s doing really well here. Better than I expected, actually. And hiring Bianca was probably one of the smartest things I’ve done.”
“She can’t sew worth a shit.”
Elena’s eyes widen.
“Luciano. The baby.”
I look down at Massimo. He smiles at me.
“He’s five months old. He’s not going to learn the word shit from me.”
“Stop saying it!”
I laugh.
“If his first word is shit, I’m telling Adriana it was you,” she says, pointing a finger at me.
“As if your brother or Adriana herself haven’t already said worse in front of him.”
Elena opens her mouth then stops. “That’s a fair point.”
“Thank you.”
