“Enjoy your lunch, princesa.”
I smooth my dress. “Wait. Are you killing people who look at me?”
He places his hand at my lower back and guides me from the room. “People?”
“Men. Are you killing men who look at me?”
“No one has died for looking at you.”
“That answer was extremely specific.”
“Because you asked a specific question.”
We reach the bottom of the stairs, but I stop before he can lead me toward the entrance.
“You know I always come home to you.”
Luciano’s expression softens. His hand slides around my waist, drawing me close enough for him to press a kiss to my forehead.
“I know, mi vida.” His thumb passes over my ring. “That has never been the concern.”
“Then what is?”
“The thoughts they have while they’re looking.”
“You can’t punish someone for their thoughts.”
“Of course not.”
I narrow my eyes. “What do you do?”
“Usually, they lose an eye.”
My mouth falls open. “An eye?”
“One is enough to learn manners.”
He opens the front door.
Bianca stands on the other side in an enormous pair of sunglasses, one hand raised toward the bell. Her gaze moves from Luciano to me.
“What did I walk into?”
“Luciano mutilates men who look at me.”
“Two men,” he corrects. “Maybe three.”
I turn to him. “Three?”
“I said maybe.”
“Maybe isn’t no.”
His eyes drop to the short hem of my dress before returning to my face.
“We’ll see how lunch goes.”
Bianca lowers her sunglasses. “Should I have brought bail money?”
