“What is this?”
The service elevator chimes behind us.
She turns as the doors open and two of the men begin wheeling Evelyn’s garment racks onto the floor. The purple dress hangs at the front of the first one.
Elena’s mouth falls open.
“You made them stop unloading because they were bringing everything here?”
“Yes.”
“I spent the entire drive worried about those dresses.”
“They were unattended for approximately seven minutes.”
“That is not the point.”
“I’ve gathered.”
Her gaze moves across the floor again.
The tables. The dress forms. Evelyn’s collection. Her name mounted in gold.
“Elena Hope,” she whispers.
She looks at me, her eyes already shining. “You did all of this?”
“I had assistance.”
“Luciano.”
“It’s a floor, princesa.”
“It’s an entire floor.”
“I own the building.”
“That doesn’t change a thing.”
A laugh escapes me.
I nod toward the hallway beyond the workroom.
“Come.”
She wipes beneath one eye. “There’s more?”
“Yes.”
I take her hand and lead her past the fitting rooms and fabric storage. She glances through every open doorway as we pass.
I know exactly where she’ll stop.
Her fingers tighten around mine.
The gold lettering on the office door reads:
ELENA CASTILLO
