Neither of us answers quickly enough.
“Are you two conducting suspicious cartel business over there?”
“I’m not in the cartel,” Rafael says.
“You work for the cartel.”
“I work for a businessman.”
Her eyes move to me.
I spread my hands. “He understands the distinction.”
She rolls her eyes. “Well, your completely legitimate businessmen have stopped bringing in my things.”
“They’ll handle it, princesa.”
“They’re standing outside.”
“They know what they’re doing.”
Her eyes narrow.
Rafael checks his watch. “I should go.”
“Coward,” Elena calls after him.
He inclines his head to me and starts toward the entrance.
“Obsidian opens Saturday,” I remind him.
He stops. “Finally.”
“I’ve been occupied.”
His gaze slides toward Elena. “Obviously.”
I wait until he leaves before crossing the foyer.
Elena returns her attention to the purple dress. I slide one arm around her waist and look over her shoulder.
“What do you think?” she asks.
“I think it’s purple.”
She slowly turns her head. “Your eye for fashion is extraordinary.”
“I have other talents.”
“I’m aware.”
Her gaze drops to my mouth.
I kiss her before she distracts me enough to ruin my own schedule.
When I pull back, she looks toward the entrance again.
“I should find out why they stopped.”
