His eyes search mine.
He’s been doing that since last night. Watching me too carefully. Touching me as though he needs constant proof that I’m still here.
I know why.
I reach back and cover his hand with mine.
His fingers tighten around mine before he brushes my hair away from my face and kisses my forehead.
“We’ll be in my office.”
“I know.”
“Anything you need—”
“You’ll be twenty feet away.”
“Closer to thirty.”
I look at him. “Go.”
Across the room, Santo places two packaged snack cakes into Vasilisa’s hands.
Then he reaches into his jacket and produces a third.
She looks at it. “A third?”
“For the baby.”
“The baby does not need an entire snack cake.”
“That isn’t what you say at two in the morning when you eat four of them.”
Vasilisa’s cheeks turn pink. “You didn’t need to tell everyone that.”
“I’m taking care of my wife.”
He kisses her before she can argue.
Beside them, Angelo holds Adriana’s water bottle toward her.
“The doctor said you need more water, Tesoro.”
“You’re going to make me pee every twelve seconds.”
“You already pee every twelve seconds.”
Adriana narrows her eyes. “Leave it here. I’ll drink it.”
“Actually drink it.”
“Yes, Angelo.”
He places it on the coffee table and kisses her.
I look at Luciano.
He looks entirely too amused.
