I hear voices below, then footsteps crossing the foyer.

His footsteps.

I press my pencil harder against the page.

He takes the stairs without hurrying. Of course he doesn’t hurry. He drained an entire pool before breakfast and ignored my messages afterward. The man is clearly at peace with his crimes.

I don’t look up until he appears in the doorway.

His gaze travels across the pages scattered over the floor before settling on me.

I roll my eyes.

“Princesa.”

“No. Don’t princesa me.”

One of his eyebrows rises.

“Why is my pool empty?”

A quiet laugh leaves him.

My anger flares hotter.

“Don’t laugh at me.”

“I’m not laughing because you’re angry.” He steps into the room. “I’m laughing because yesterday it was our pool. Today it’s yours.”

“It is my pool. You said this is our house, which makes it our pool, and since I’m the one who uses it, it’s mostly mine.”

“Yes, princesa.”

“Stop agreeing with me like I’m being unreasonable.”

“I drained it because I wasn’t going to be here to supervise you.”

The sketchbook leaves my hand before I decide to throw it.

Luciano catches it against his chest.

His amusement disappears.

His eyes darken as they lift to mine.

“Princesa.”

The warning in his voice moves over my skin, but I’m too angry to care.

“You don’t get to drain an entire pool because you’re not here.”

“You don’t have to throw things. I can explain.”

“Then explain why a grown woman needs your supervision to swim in her own fucking pool.”

He sets the sketchbook carefully on the dresser.

“What happened yesterday was dangerous.”
