I step outside, avoiding the broken pieces scattered near my feet, and stare down into the drained pool.
“What the hell?”
The words come out too quietly.
I move closer to the edge.
Why would he do this?
One of the guards rush onto the patio, takes one look at me in the bikini and sheer cover-up, then immediately averts his eyes. “Are you okay?”
That only makes me angrier.
Luciano isn’t even here, and they’re still obeying him.
“I’m fine,” I snap.
“Yes, Miss Amato.”
His gaze remains fixed somewhere above my shoulder.
I point toward the empty pool. “Why is it drained?”
The guard hesitates.
“Why is my pool empty?”
“You’ll have to ask Señor Castillo.”
Of course I will.
Luciano apparently left specific instructions to drain an entire pool but neglected to include an explanation for the woman who lives here.
“Did he tell you not to answer me?”
“No, Miss Amato.”
“But you’re not answering me.”
“I don’t know why it was drained.”
I look at him.
He continues staring determinedly at a point behind me.
“Right.”
I turn away before I decide to throw one of the surviving berries at him.
The broken bowl remains scattered across the patio. Usually, I would clean it myself.
I’m too pissed off right now.
I storm back through the house, up the double staircase, and into the bedroom.
My phone is where I left it on the nightstand.
I snatch it up and open Luciano’s messages.
