Valentina groans. “Mami!”
A small ache catches beneath my ribs.
A baby.
Luciano and I haven’t talked about anything close to that. I’ve barely thought past being here with him, in this house, with the pool waiting outside and his arm secure around my waist.
The idea shouldn’t feel like anything.
It does.
I glance up at him.
His eyes are already on me.
“Time to leave, Mamá.”
Chapter 47
Luciano
Lucero Tower has always been my favorite place to work.
The upper floors are quiet, sunlight cuts through walls of glass, and every man seated around the conference table knows why he’s here.
Today, Elena has followed me into the room without leaving the house.
Fine. You won’t take me to Lucero, then I’ll spend the entire day in the pool.
She’d slid her sunglasses onto her face before adding, In the sun. Half-naked.
That part had been deliberate.
When I didn’t give her the reaction she wanted, she’d stretched across the lounge chair and announced she wouldn’t answer any of my calls either.
She wanted me to stay. Or argue about the bikini. Preferably both.
I kissed her forehead and left anyway.
She was still glaring when I walked out the doors.
“Velasco’s men have been seen near the warehouse three times in the last two days,” one of my men says.
I drag my attention away from the image of Elena stretched beneath the Florida sun.
“How near?”
“Across the street. Two men in the vehicle each time. They park, sit for fifteen or twenty minutes, then leave.”
“Have they approached anyone?”
“No.”
“Weapons?”
“Nothing visible.”
They’ve done enough to be noticed without doing enough to justify a response.
