I stare at him, delighted.
“You’re a terrible influence.”
“You have forty minutes, princesa.”
“That’s not enough time.”
“Then you should stop asking questions.”
I hurry toward the bathroom, then stop and look back at him.
“Luciano?”
“Yes?”
“I’m going to need shoes.”
“Also already handled.”
Of course they are.
I grin and close the bathroom door.
Florida!
***
I love Florida.
I belong here.
The sun. The ocean. The palm trees.
I’m almost positive there’s something in my astrological chart proving I was destined to live here, and I’ve only seen it through the car window.
“This is the best place in the world,” I announce.
Luciano glances at me from behind the wheel. “You’ve been here twenty minutes.”
“That’s been more than enough time.”
“It usually takes longer to establish residency.”
“I’m spiritually established.”
He smirks.
I turn back toward the window as we follow a wide road lined with palms. Everything is bright and green, sunlight flashing across the windshield while enormous houses appear and disappear behind walls and iron gates.
Then I see blue between them.
I sit forward.
“Is that the ocean?”
“Yes.”
I twist toward Luciano. “That’s the ocean?”
