I still have the list.
Zephyr’s name is already crossed out because I rather eat glass than marry someone my sister-in-law dated. Throne and his stupid little star are next.
That leaves Phoenix Sterling, Caine Wolfe, Sam Villanueva, Søren Cross, and Dominic James.
Five men.
One of them could work.
Probably.
By the time we reach the house, my body feels warm and loose and pleasantly exhausted. Luciano unlocks the door, then places his hand at my lower back as he guides me inside.
I step out of my heels and curl my toes against the rug.
His thumb moves once over my waist before his hand falls away.
I miss it immediately.
Terrible.
I need to reset this evening before my heart starts assigning emotional meaning to basic motor functions.
I look at Luciano. “Do you have everything to make s’mores?”
He pauses. “S’mores.”
“Yes.”
“At this hour?”
“I’ve had a demanding evening.”
Amusement warms his eyes. “You appeared to enjoy it.”
“That doesn’t mean I wasn’t exerting myself.”
“Of course.”
“Do you have the ingredients?”
“I do.”
I brighten. “Really?”
“I own food, Elena.”
“Having food and having marshmallows are entirely different things.”
“I have marshmallows.” He takes off his jacket and lays it over the back of a chair. “There’s a fire pit outside.”
I stare at him. “You have a fire pit?”
“In the garden.”
“The garden that currently looks like a wealthy person abandoned a landscaping project halfway through?”
“The garden is still being constructed,” he says. “The fire pit is finished.”
