“Nah, I was waiting for you to come back.”
She smiled, rolled her eyes, and then they fell to the floor. I touched her chin and brought her eyes to mine.
“It was just something about the look that you gave me in the museum…. That one.” She said.
“You don’t think I have a reason to? You’re pretty as fuck.” I admitted.
She smiled, then she took my hand from her chin but held it.
“The curtain closed on you before I could dance for you. Can I dance for you now?” she asked.
“Yeah.” I agreed. Something about the raspy tone of her voice made me want to do whatever she asked.
She smiled just as Remember You by Wiz Khalifa and The Weeknd came on.
The song flowed over the speakers, and I couldn’t agree more with the first two lines. She flipped her hair in front of her, then turned with her back to me and started dancing on me. Her body moved like she woke up and practiced this shit in the mirror. It was like water; the way she ground on my dick made it brick up instantly.
It was Halloween night, and while I might not believe in magic, I was sure that she was putting a fucking spell on me. I wasn’t a creep ass nigga. I could see a beautiful woman and not be physically turned on by her. Ms. Officer had been in my lap for the last thirty minutes, Pink Panther was just naked on a handstand in front of us, and there was no reaction. But here Leah was fully clothed and covered in blood, and she had me feeling like I was about to bust in my pants. I took a step back and repositioned my dick. I didn’t want to offend her. But as soon as I thought it, she turned around and gave me a look that told me otherwise.
She closed the space between us again, grabbing the back of my head as she continued to dance on me, then placed my free hand on her waist. Being that close to her, I could see that she smelled just as good as she looked. Her perfume was sweet, like vanilla.
Then she turned toward me with her hand still resting on the back of my neck.
“Let me call you later,” I said, keeping my hand on her waist.
She leaned in and bit my earlobe gently.
“Hmmm, take my number. Hopefully next time you see me, I won’t be covered in blood.” She waited for me to take out my phone.
I opened it and handed it to her, and she called herself from my phone.
The music faded to the next song, and we parted ways before I went back to the section.
“Who was that?” Speedy asked, just like I knew he would.
“One of the girls from the museum.”
“I ain’t see her. She bad as fuck.” He noted.
I gave him a knowing look, then picked up the stack of ones I had left on the couch and let them rain down on the ladies in the section. Earlier, I wondered if tonight would be worth the distraction. Leah just confirmed that it was.

I stood in front of the mirror, curling my hair and humming the ‘You Are My Sunshine’ lullaby. My mother would hum it to me when I was a kid to help me fall asleep. It was a habit that I had grown accustomed to when I was nervous, and it never failed to calm me down. I was nervous about going on a date with Rocko. Not because I was uncomfortable, but because dating felt like new territory. I hadn’t been on a date in years, and the whole idea of getting to know someone new made me uneasy for more than one reason.
The dangerous part was that I was drawn to Rocko from the moment that I saw him. He had quite a reputation in California. Not only was he a standout athlete, recently named MVP, but he also had a reputation for being unapproachable. He was always strictly business, always spoken of, but rarely seen. He showed up, played ball, and stayed out of the mix. I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting him, although I had planned every event for the team for the last four years because he never showed. From what I heard, he was disciplined and low-key.
It’s wild how fate works. Because I wasn’t supposed to be a part of the burlesque show. Normally, I plan the events and enjoy them the same way the public does. But just a few hours before the Museum of the Forbidden was supposed to open, one of my girls pulled out. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I put on my costume, wrote a quick backstory, and sat in her box. All night, I sat there with my legs idly swinging, staring into space, and creeping everyone out.
That was, until the curtain revealed Rocko.
From the moment that I laid eyes on his six-foot-three toned frame in that God-awful purple Joker costume, I felt like I was being hypnotized. He stood at the glass with dark eyes, a set jaw, and a permanent scowl that confirmed that he was everything that they claimed him to be. When our stares collided, I knew that he felt it too. It was almost as if time stood still as we stood there, eyes locked on each other until the curtain closed.
I knew then that I had to have him. Even if it meant finding out he would be at Tricks & Treats so I could “accidentally bump into” him again.
Knock, Knock
“Come in,” I said, knowing that it was my younger sister Daya. She and I had lived together for the last five years. We are only seven months apart, same father, different mother, but judging by how much we resembled each other and how close we were, if you didn’t know any better, you’d think we came from the same womb.
