“I’m okay.” She nodded. “Some of the women he’s hurt won’t be.”
With fire burning in her eyes, Kaimana stalked toward Marretta. “You’re a monster.”
She curled her fist and landed a blow to his nose. His head rolled to the side, blood dripping down his face. “Rot in hell!”
Seth reached for her, holding her back. “He’s not worth it. The FBI will be here soon.”
Seth tapped a quick text to Evan hoping he’d contacted them about Marcus. Branches breaking sounded from the woods, but before he had a chance to move, Seth heard a familiar voice. Raine Presley.
“Drop the gun, Garrett,” she ordered, her voice cold.
“Raine?” As Seth glanced over his shoulder, he caught sight of his colleague emerging from the brush. She wore a black fitted jumpsuit with riding boots, her hair in a tight ponytail.
“I said drop the gun,” she repeated, aiming it at Seth.
“Yeah, I don’t fucking think so.” Seth whipped around to face Raine and pointed his gun at her. “What the hell are you doing?”
“What can I say? Dom and I have got an arrangement. And I’m not going to let anyone fuck it up for me. Not you. Not Garrett. Not even the fucking FBI.”
“You’re never going to get off this island,” he told her.
“That’s a girl,” Marretta praised her.
“Let him go, Garrett or I’m going to shoot all of you,” Raine warned. “There’s a boat waiting for us. We’re getting out of here.”
Seth glanced to his friend who kept his gun pointed at Marretta. “Don’t do it, Garrett. Don’t listen to her.”
“It’s over, Raine. You’re outnumbered. You’ll never get away with this,” Seth stepped in front of Kaimana, shielding her. “This place is swarming with FBI.”
“Drop the guns and get in the cellar. Now!” she screamed, her face tight with rage.
“No fucking way, Raine.” Seth stood firm. If she’d been anyone else, he’d have fired off a shot. But she’d once been a close friend, had worked with everyone at Emerson.
“Are you fucking stupid?” she screamed. “I’m going to kill everyone here. Let Dom go!”
“You’re going to regret this you stupid bitch!” Kaimana yelled back.
Without warning, Marretta jumped to his feet and lunged for Garrett. They tumbled onto the ground and struggled for control. Garrett rolled Dom onto his back and landed a solid punch to his jaw. Raine aimed her gun at them and fired off a shot, hitting Garrett in the shoulder.
Never taking his eyes off of his target, Seth aimed and shot Raine in the stomach, and she stumbled backwards.
“Dom!” Her gun fell into the brush as she hit the ground. She clutched her gut, attempting to stop the blood that gushed from her body.
In the chaos, gunfire exploded around them. Raine reached for the ground, grasping at the dirt, searching for her weapon. Her eyes widened as she spied it. With her fingers mere inches from her gun, she leaned to grab it.
“Take cover,” Seth screamed to Kaimana.
“I’ve got this,” Kaimana yelled back. She ran toward Raine and kicked the weapon out of her reach.
In the melee, Marretta shoved up onto his knees. Holding tight to Garrett’s gun, he fired at Seth but missed.
Seth flinched as a bullet sailed past him. He took a deep breath and whipped his gun toward Marretta. Without hesitation, he fired off a shot, hitting the crime boss.
Marretta grunted as the bullet tunneled through his flesh, but he held firm to the gun. As Seth took cover again behind a tree, he heard the familiar voice. Evan.
“This is fucking over!”
A single gunshot blasted into the air and silence enveloped the night.
