Chapter Fourteen
Braelynn cried his name, her pussy pulsating around his cock. As the explosive finale crashed around them, the flickering of sex in her eyes consumed him and the sweet moan from her lips was all he heard. She wrapped her legs around his waist, drawing him deeper, tilting her hips up into each thrust. The sting of her fingernails digging into his ass reminded him she was wild, far from being tamed.
Lars made love to Braelynn, capturing her mouth with his. Biting and sucking at her lips, he increased the pace. Giving a final glorious thrust into her quivering sheath, the crest of his orgasm slammed into him.
His eyes blinked open and her gaze burned through him, a swirl of lust in her eyes. The mist on her eyelashes gave away the emotion she tried so desperately to conceal, and it gutted him. Lars shoved away the urge to beg her to stay. Rolling onto his back he brought her with him. The warmth of her body formed to his, and his thoughts churned, as he realized what he’d done.
Lars had lost control, and it scared the fuck out of him. He’d never pushed a lover the way he’d done Braelynn. Although she hadn’t specifically said otherwise, he’d suspected she’d never had public sex. Lars had told her earlier he wanted to fuck at the party, but he’d simply wanted to test her, to see how far she’d go. Encouraging her to watch the ménage had been all he’d planned.
At Altura, he and his friends routinely pushed the boundaries life offered. Engaging in extreme sports, they pushed each other harder, faster, took calculated risks, having each other’s backs at every turn. While he’d never been fully committed to any lifestyle, he’d dominated lovers, shared others. Like everything in his life, he sought to not just blur lines but break them altogether. Braelynn, however, was a temporary interloper, who he’d brought into his erotic, rush-fueled world for just one night. He’d told himself he’d let her go, that she was nothing more than a passing fancy. Yet making love to her again had done nothing to sate his hunger for the sexy doctor.
As he stared up into the dark sky, the broad universe appeared to close in on them. Her lips brushed his chest, the sound of her soft moan vibrated against his skin. Embracing her, his fingers tunneled into her hair. He told himself that it was his protective streak causing his angst. A relationship simply wasn’t acceptable, not part of his plans.
“Braelynn,” he said, deliberately breaking the intimate silence. She mewled in response and he gazed down into her tired eyes. “Are you hungry?”
“Hmm?” Braelynn cuddled closer.
“Would you like to get some dinner?” he asked.
“It’s a barbeque?” She laughed, raising an eyebrow at him.
“Maybe we should go home.” Lars paused, regretting his words.
“Home?”
“My home, not yours. But yeah.” Lars reached for her cami with one hand and shook it out. Brushing it over her bared back, he set it into her hands. Jesus, I sound like an asshole. Logic warred with his emotions. She’s not your girlfriend. If you let her get too attached, she’ll be hurt.
Lars cursed himself for what he’d done. As it was, he was going to have a hard time shaking the growing feelings that he’d sworn he’d never develop. He couldn’t commit to any woman, let alone one who wasn’t part of his world. Flirting with death was a permanent hard-on, one he’d never stop trying to stroke. He was lucky to have survived some of his more dangerous stunts. Testing mortality often involved broken bones, and bruised egos weren’t uncommon. Addicted to the chase, dancing with the devil to achieve the high, Lars wouldn’t ever change.
He didn’t know what drove him to risk his own life. He didn’t care. The one thing he did know was that he wasn’t going to stop for a woman. Braelynn knew nothing of his lifestyle. She’d never accept it. No sane person would.
His mind spiraled, and he grew irritated. Stop thinking and let it go. You don’t need this, Lars. Help her. Fuck her. But you can’t keep her. She’s not a stray dog. She’s a woman who has serious fucking issues, one who doesn’t rock climb or jump out of planes.
“Lars?” she asked, breaking his rumination.
“Hey.” Lars shifted away a few inches and reached for a towel, cleaning himself. He broke eye contact, adjusting his dick into his pants and zippering them.
“So, um, you want to go to your house?” she asked, smoothing down her clothing.
“Yeah, this.” He glanced to the others, who’d begun to return to the tent. “I’d stay longer but this place, it’s…” My world. You don’t belong. Lars realized that he couldn’t let her form friendships with people in an exclusive club she’d never join. This family was his, one she’d never be a part of. “They’re going to party all night. I think maybe we’d do better getting some rest, given what we have to do tomorrow.”
“Yeah, sure, okay.”
Lars read the flash of disappointment in her eyes, noting she was quick to blink it away. A small smile replaced her dejection. He’d sought to create emotional distance and within minutes he’d achieved what he’d set out to do. Guilt speared through him, and he plowed his fingers into his hair, blowing out a breath. Pressing to his feet, he extended his hand to her.
“No, no. I’m fine, really.” Braelynn refused his assistance.
She brushed her hair behind her ears, but the curly locks resisted, springing forth. She wrapped her arms protectively around her waist, and stepped ahead of him.
After what they’d shared, he knew he should go to her. Yearning for her touch, he refused to give into the craving. His lips tensed, the crease of his forehead deepening. Trailing close behind her, he shoved his hands into his pockets.
Ahead in the lights, he caught sight of Garrett waving to him. He didn’t want to argue, knew he’d warn him off Braelynn. Hell, maybe he deserved the shit he was about to receive.
“Willem,” Lars called. Braelynn turned toward him, but the brief eye contact was severed as the good-looking servant crossed the lawn. “Can you please get my car? Take Braelynn with you?”
“Yes sir,” he replied politely, yet didn’t smile.
“Brae,” Lars said. Her gaze snapped to his, her expression serious. It wasn’t as if he didn’t know why. He’d caused it, fucked up the entire night. Don’t do it. Don’t go to her. It’s too soon, too fast. He continued to tell himself that it didn’t matter, she’d be gone tomorrow. It would come to a bitter end. He’d feel bad for a few days then move on. It was for the best.
