I’m out of the elevator at this point and almost to the NICU seeing a couple of Knox’s men standing outside the NICU door.
“Yeah I know, but this is what happens when Bulldog started slacking the last two years with the club girls and letting other brothers take over bringing them in. He used to be on top of all that stuff. But shit definitely changed when he started dealing with everything with Acid MC. But hey, I just got to the NICU, I’m going to head in. I’ll keep you posted. Hopefully you can get here soon. I don’t know how much comfort I am going to bring her. She’s still pissed at me because of Barbie’s stupid shit she spilled last month.”
“I’ll let you know, but she might surprise you. You might be just who she needs.”
We hang up and I nod to the brothers standing outside the NICU and I walk in remembering the protocol from when we had the triplets. I wash my hands and put on a gown before heading in and trying to see my woman.
I look around the NICU at all the parents and their babies and so many memories crash around me of when it was us in here worrying about how the triplets were doing. I spot my woman sitting in between two incubators with her phone in her hand. I walk over to her and kneel down in front of her.
“Hey, are you okay?”
She looks up and she has tears in her eyes and shakes her head. “No, no I’m not okay. How did this happen again?”
I pull her up and I sit down in the chair she was in bringing her to my lap. She puts her face in my neck and cries.
“Hey, it’s going to be okay. They are going to bring her back and she is going to be okay. I promise. The brothers already know where she is. What happened to your mama isn’t going to happen to Sophie. She’s going to be okay. I promise.”
She pulls her head from my neck and looks at me with a sob, she says “You don’t know that. You don’t know she will be okay. I don’t know what I would do if something happens to my big sister. I already lost my mama. This can’t keep happening. Look at these babies, they haven’t even met their mama yet. What if they never get to?”
I rub her back and then bring my hand up to her head and make her look at me.
“You can’t think like that, Peyton. We have to stay positive. You have to have some faith that everything will be okay. Sophie is strong and she’s stubborn, she’s not going to let anyone take her away from her babies. Just have a little faith, baby. Okay?”
She nods her head and then she places it back in the crock of my neck and I can feel the tears coming from her eyes. So I just hold her and rub her back trying to be there for her and trying my best to comfort her. I look over at one of the incubators and inside there is a little tag that says Baby Boy McGraw and then I look at the other one that says the same thing. I didn’t know what Sophie was having, I don’t know who all did, but I’m sure there are going to be some big brothers who are happy to have two new little brothers to join in on their fun.
After hours Peyton’s phone rings and I look down and see that it is Lash. I nudge her and nod down to her phone and she hurries off my lap and answers the phone.
“Toby? Oh my gosh, are you okay? Is Sophie okay? What is going on?”
I don’t hear what he is saying on the other line, but I see Peyton’s shoulders shaking up and down and I can hear her sniffling. I walk up behind her and pull her to me as she finishes her phone call.
“They are beautiful, Toby. So strong. They are doing really well for being born premature. The doctors don’t think they need to keep them all that long. I mean they are twins so they were going to be born premature, just not this premature. They are having some help breathing. They could use their mama. We pulled some strings with the hospital and set them up in a private room. Once I explained the situation to the hospital and that we were afraid someone was going to be coming for them, the hospital moved them somewhere more secure.
So we’ve got Untamed Brothers here watching the door and the hospital entrances. Knox doesn’t want anything to happen to his nephews. I’ve been staying, of course Knox has come with the triplets and we set up little travel cots for them since I’m nursing the monsters still. Grim did send up some of his men from the Devil’s Hollow chapter as well, not wanting anything to happen to his new great nephews. Whip is also here so you have a brother here. I mean do you want him back? I won’t be torn up to send him back your way?
If I'm being honest Toby, the boys are on the VIP floor. I guess that is what happens when your ol’ man is the president of the club that makes lots of donations to the hospital and you’re working to become a doctor. Anyway, I’m rambling. We will move them up to the VIP floor which would give them a suite with nurses right there, plus of course they have me. But that way you and the kids can come up here and stay. There is a bunch of room and beds, couches and all the things. That way you don’t have to be pulled in three different directions. Then hopefully we can get Sophie transferred here so that they can all be under one roof. But really, think about it, do you want me to set that up so it is ready for after you tell the kids? The babies need to have lots of kangaroo time and Knox and myself have been doing it, but it’s not the same. They need their parents and if they can’t have Soph right now they need their daddy. I have some pumped breast milk as well as donated breast milk that we have been giving them. Hope that is okay.”
A couple more exchanges later and she’s off the phone with him and she turns into me. Standing on her tip toes she hugs me.
“”Thank you for being here and helping me. It means a lot. Can you stay with them while I go work with administration on getting them set up in the VIP area. Toby is going to bring the kids here so they can all be staying here.”
“Alright, baby. I can do that for you. I’ll stay with the boys.”
With that she heads out of the NICU and I am sitting with two precious little boys. I pull out my phone and message a prospect asking him to bring me two Devil’s Chaos onesies and two baby beanies. I think I can convince some of the nurses to let me dress the boys once we get them up to their new room. It will probably be a little while before Lash gets here with the kids. The babies are a little bigger than the triplets were when Peyton had them, but I know that Sophie was also further along where I don’t think the boys will have to stay connected to anything for as long as the triplets were. Thank goodness for that. They might not have had the best entrance into the world, but I know their life is going to be full of love and happiness.
Chapter Twenty-Five
Peyton
So the months following Sophie’s abduction and coma have been a lot. So much has happened and most of it has been good. I got everyone moved into a private VIP suite in the hospital where Toby stayed with all the kids after he got them all moved there. For a while he was taking turns between the hospital Sophie was at and the hospital where the boys were. Until Sophie was safe to transport to the Briarfield hospital. She finally woke up in September which was a relief to everyone. The boys at that point were two months old and had been cleared as healthy little boys needing no extra help. However, once she woke up she basically ripped into our dad and he left. I haven’t been very clued into what he is doing or where he is going, just that he is on a road trip to try and mourn my mother the way that he wants to.
Tillie and Davis have moved from staying at the in-law suite at Toby and Sophie’s to staying with Tanner since he has the room and no one else is staying with him. From what I hear they talk to dad every night and he continues to make sure that they are okay with him being on the road. He has told them he is getting answers, answers to what I am not sure. The fact that they have so many older siblings has probably helped them be okay with dad being out on the road. They are used to him going out on trips for the club being that he used to be the national chapter president. It just sucks and has been really rough dealing with all that.
I am actually pretty mad and frustrated with Sophie for everything she said and did to dad, everyone is trying to tell me I should take it easy on her. That she is dealing with her grief and her trauma the way she needs to so that maybe some day she will figure shit out with dad. I don’t know, she is more stubborn than she is and doesn't think that she’s in the wrong. I also know from my brothers that she has been really secretive and has been up to something. I don’t know what and haven’t really been clued into anything. I don’t know if I want to know what she is doing or not.
I did find out that my friend Liza has been hiding a big secret of her own and that explains why she stopped coming over here a few months back. She is pregnant and she is pregnant with Cane’s baby. She didn’t want to tell him yet, but when you run into him around town and he sees your giant ass belly he’s going to know. She didn’t want me to have to lie and hide anything so she was avoiding me. She told me that she had planned on telling Cane, but she wasn’t ready after everything that happened. It brought up a lot of memories for her and not good memories either. A lot of Liza’s past she keeps to herself, so I really don’t know everything that has happened to her or why she moved here. She doesn’t ever see her family from the sounds of it and when you talk to her boys you know that they have never really physically met that side of their family.
Cooper has still been on my shit list, yes he is at our home most nights and I know maybe it isn’t fair of me to blame him for what that bitch said. He has told me time and time again that he has not been with her since October of last year and really it was only a blowjob. One he claims wasn’t even that great and pictured me while it happened. It’s just so hard to believe anything that comes out of his mouth when he lied to me for years before our shitty spring break experience. He has been trying to prove to me that he can be trusted and that he is serious about having a life together with Knox and myself, but he still has yet to open up to me about everything and why he acted the way he did. I’ve been trying to focus on med school now that it has started and not worrying about anything else. I know that I’m going to have to focus on other things here soon because Thanksgiving is coming up and it is going to be weird this year since dad and mom are both gone. It is our first Thanksgiving since mama passed away and I am nervous about everything with dad since he is out on the road.
