Chapter Seventeen
When you have incredible sex in the backseat of a car, you are destined to think about it constantly for the next two days.
The way his fingers glided up my sides in a trail of desire. That forbidden feel of his breath against my neck, speaking sweet nothings as his hips rose and fell. The feel of him swelling inside of me and—hot damn—how his teeth bit down on his lower lip as he watched me lose control.
I drop my pen on my desk as a quiver runs up the front of my body and curls around my shoulders. Either I was hard up for a good fuck or Nicolás was just that good.
Yeah, he was that good.
And he’s mine … at least, that’s what he said, but I know better. The man lives by one set of rules, and that’s his own. He might have been caught up in the moment when he said those words. Those words … I loved hearing him call me his unpredictable girl as he professed the wicked things he planned to do to me.
After our romp in the backseat, Nic had to go back to work, and I was not presentable to go inside. He kissed me long and hard and then sent me back home. We spoke on the phone briefly when he called to make sure I’d gotten home okay.
I haven’t spoken to him since.
I would love to waltz into Lounge 702 tonight and sit at the bar, but I don’t want to come across as needy. Being used is also not on my list, so I’ve decided that if I don’t hear from him by tomorrow, I’m gonna call and explain exactly what it is I want from this relationship.
I should figure out exactly what that is first.
I’m not done with my alphabet experiment. Not that I want to continue. There’s no way any other man would get my mind off Nic. The only way I’d even consider carrying on with that experiment is if he clearly stated he didn’t want a relationship.
Man, I really hope he doesn’t say that.
I’m a mess. I can’t think of anything but him, which is a problem because I’m currently at work, going over a contract for a concert that needs a ton of things ordered and in place, and if I don’t get my head out of my ass, then I’m going to screw this up.
I lift my pen and get back to going through the line items in the document.
The word large jumps off the page, and I immediately think of one very large hand squeezing my ass and pulling me tighter as—
See, I did it again.
“Get a grip, woman,” I say to myself as I shake all the naughty thoughts out of my head. My desk phone rings, and I jump at the unexpected sound. I pick it up. “Evette Lewis.”
“Hello, Ms. Lewis. It’s George at security. You have a visitor.”
Swiveling toward my computer, I look at the calendar quickly to make sure I didn’t forget a meeting. I’m free right now, so this visitor is quite the surprise.
“Nicholas Santiago,” George says, which is quickly followed by a deep voice that corrects him.
“It’s Nicolás.”
I giggle as I lean back in my chair. “He’s good, George. You can send him up. If you can just show him to the elevator bank, I’ll meet him up here.”
We hang up, and I do a quick appraisal of my outfit. Dusty-rose pleated skirt, sleeveless white button-down blouse, and my tan wedges. I fluff my hair as I walk to the elevator and wait for the ding that says Nic’s on my floor. When the chime comes, I wait with bated breath as the doors open.
“To what do I owe this surprise?” I ask as Nic steps out of the elevator, looking cool and relaxed in a form-fitted V-neck tee and cargo shorts.
He leans forward and kisses my lips, not caring that there’s a receptionist nearby, staring at the interaction. “I was in the area and thought I’d swing by and say hello.”
“You were just hanging around the stadium?” My brow rises in disbelief.
“Well, I was close enough that I saw it out of the corner of my eye, and I thought, I should go surprise my girl.”
My cheeks flush from the sweet sentiment, but I push the feeling aside and put on my sassy front. “Are you always this impulsive?”
“Always.” He snakes a hand across my back as he pulls me back in to kiss my jaw.
My eyes might have just fluttered with the tingle his kiss just caused to rush through me. And the receptionist might have sighed in the background.
