The bed was sweet. The floor was rough. And the shower was…well, wet.
He took me from behind against the back of the couch in the living room.
He took me standing while I was seated on the kitchen counter.
He took me in his mouth on the staircase.
I took him on my knees in the hallway.
I reversed cowgirled him on the dining room table.
I showed him everything I’d learned on the mechanical bull at The Bucking Bronco while riding him on a rolling desk chair.
Now, we’re back to lying in his bed, rumpled in the sheets. I’ve been here for twenty-four hours, and I don’t ever want to leave.
Adam is playing with my belly button. His oversized T-shirt is pushed up on me, so he can have better access to my stomach. He dips a tongue in my navel, and I giggle at the sensation.
“After everything I’ve done to you, that’s the thing that makes you squirm,” he teases as he tickles my ribs, a place he’s learned can get me to surrender in any circumstance.
I tickle behind his knee, and he retreats. Yes, Adam is ticklish behind his knee, and it’s so odd.
God, I am in love with everything about him.
“We have to talk,” he says when he takes his place back beside me, his finger tracing my ribs.
I raise my brows in curiosity.
“You were right—what you said at the gas station. You’re not legally bound in any way to do community service, and you are not on probation. I lied to you, and I’m sorry.”
“Why did you do it?”
“The deal I made with you that night was sincere. I was going to help you. When I found Victoria, it was after our first day working together. At the time, I didn’t know why, but I just couldn’t let you go.”
I let out a deep sigh. “What happens now?”
“Harper’s been angling for my position for months. He still doesn’t believe you weren’t driving and if he finds out we’re together, well, it would be the ultimate scandal. I’d also look like a fool to the Homes for All Souls people. I don’t want the organization to be tarnished in any way.”
“That means, what is happening here can’t happen again for a while,” I say.
“No. I am not hiding us. I’ve made a huge mess, but I’ll clean it up.”
“No, you won’t. I also have Jessica to worry about. Giving this relationship time before we let everyone know is probably a good thing. And I still want to volunteer.”
His face lights up. “You do?”
“I do. I’m taking back my Sundays though. You can have me Tuesdays before work.”
He rolls onto me. “I want you every day.”
I can feel his erection growing thick against my thigh.
He lets out a loud breath and buries his head into the side of my neck. “I don’t know how I’ll be able to stay away from you.”
“You never know; maybe you’ll get over me. You know, the thrill of the catch and all.” My words are said teasingly, yet I can’t fight this nagging feeling deep down.
“Hey.” He pulls my chin toward him. “Are you having second thoughts?”
“No!” I say quickly. “I just can’t believe this happened. That this is happening.”
