"Are ye certain ye can trust this healer?" Lara asked.

"Trust is a rare commodity these days," Harris replied, giving her an appraising look. "But we'll soon find out, will we nae?"

Desperate for some semblance of peace, Lara reached for her cup filled with mead once more. Its amber sweetness had always been a balm for her worries, and she hoped it would work its magic now. But with each sip she took, the haze in her mind thickened, and her sense of balance seemed to slip from her grasp like sand through her fingers.

"Is everything all right, Lara?" Darragh asked, his voice laced with concern. Lara attempted to reassure him with a shaky smile, but her eyes betrayed the turmoil brewing within her.

"J-just a bit unsteady," she admitted, reaching for the table's edge to regain her equilibrium. Instead, her trembling fingers closed around Darragh's strong forearm, anchoring herself to him as if he were her lifeline.

"Ye need to rest," Darragh urged, his eyes filled with worry. Lara nodded, knowing he was right but unable to shake the sense of foreboding that had settled over her like a shroud.

The room seemed to tilt and sway, the flickering candlelight casting eerie shadows on the stone walls. Lara gripped Darragh's forearm tighter, her voice barely more than a whisper as she leaned in close to him. "Darragh, I dinnae feel at all well," she slurred weakly.

His black eyes filled with alarm, his lips parting to call for assistance, but before he could utter a word, the world around her blurred and darkened. Her vision tunneled, narrowing to a pinprick of light before collapsing into total darkness. A cacophony of horrified cries echoed through her fading consciousness as her body went limp and began to crumple.

"Get the healer!" someone shouted, their voice sounding distant and distorted.

"Give her air!" another commanded urgently.

Chaos reigned as people surged forward, hands reaching out to steady her fall. But through it all, one voice cut clear and accusingly, like a knife slicing through the tumult: "What have ye done tae her, you foul betrayer? I'll see ye hang for this!"

Lara's heart clenched painfully at the sound of her father’s enraged accusation. Even as the haze of unconsciousness threatened to overtake her completely, she fought to maintain some semblance of awareness, desperate to defend Darragh from the rising tide of suspicion that threatened to drown them both.

"Please… listen…" She tried to speak, but her words were swallowed by the chaos, her feeble protests lost in the storm of voices that swirled around her like vultures circling their prey.

As strong arms lifted her from the ground, she felt Darragh's embrace tighten protectively around her, his warm breath hot against her ear. "I would never harm ye, Lara," he whispered fiercely, his voice strained with the effort of keeping his emotions in check. "Ye ken that, dinnae ye?"

She wanted to respond, to tell him that she trusted him implicitly, but the darkness was too heavy, pressing down on her like a crushing weight. And as she slipped beneath its suffocating embrace, she couldn't help but wonder if her faith in Darragh would be enough to save them both from the noose that her father and his wrath had so cruelly fashioned.

"Find the healer!" Quinn shouted again, his voice tinged with desperation. "Hurry, fer God's sake!"

As the clamor of voices faded into silence, Lara felt herself being carried away, watching the blurred, worried faces of her brothers and sister. And then there was complete darkness.
