“Aye, please dinnae stop,” May spoke in a whisper of a voice.
Iain took her words and followed their instructions, for he was quickly picking up his pace as he moved out and in of her repeatedly. May could feel her walls closing around him and she knew that she wasn’t going to last very long while underneath him.
“Oh Iain,” she moaned and dug her nails into him again. The action seemed to spur him on more as he started to thrust into her even faster. May was struggling to meet her hips with his, but she was sure that she was going to come undone if he went any faster.
“I’m nae going to last long,” he spoke, as though reading her mind. She could feel him twitching inside of her even more.
Judging by the way that his thrusts were becoming much sloppier, as well as the fact that he was holding onto her much tighter than before, he was reaching his peak.
He only needed to push into her a few more times before he was coming undone and shuddering above her. His movements triggered her own release only a couple of seconds later, causing May to arch her back as she moaned his name loudly. Her body jolted at the sudden warmth and euphoria that ran through her. It felt as though she was on top of the world, and May felt incredibly safe in Iain’s arms. She wished that she could stay there forever.
“That felt so good,” he chuckled, as he lay down beside her with a lazy smile on his face.
“I cannae even tell ye how much I love ye,” May whispered to him after his laughter had died down.
“I love ye more,” Iain spoke, his eyes never leaving hers. He pulled her even closer to him, despite how hot they both were already, the sweat sticking their bodies together. It was a heated mess, but May wouldn’t have had it any other way, she thought to herself as she slowly fell asleep.
* * *
A couple of days passed, and the late summer sun wasn’t nearly as hot as she remembered it being the year before. But May was grateful for this as it was just the right amount of heat to ride in.
She knew that it was going to come out as quite a strange suggestion after being isolated in the castle for so long, but she felt ready to go out.
“Are ye sure?” Iain winced, as he glanced out of the window to the glen that she was talking about.
“Aye, I really do feel ready for this,” May nodded enthusiastically.
“Why all of a sudden?” Iain asked with a frown.
She couldn’t tell him yet, she didn’t want to ruin it by telling him right at that moment. May bit her lip and shrugged nonchalantly.
“I just really want to do this with ye, I promise that it will be fine. We’ll be within the sight of the guards on the lookout posts, but I want it to just be ye and me out there.”
Iain’s eyes were narrowing even more as he stared at her, unable to work out why she wanted to do this.
“Please?”
Iain let his eyes close for a moment as he let out a deep sigh. May waited for a moment, holding her breath in anticipation as to what he was going to say.
“Aye, all right, but we must nae be too long.”
“Thank ye,” May smiled up at him, “I promise that ye’ll nae regret this.”
She hoped that Iain remembered the spot that she had specified; it was where their first kiss had been all those years ago. May remembered the way that she had felt as they arrived back at the castle. She had felt so nervous that someone had seen them, the idea of the laird’s daughter being with someone like Iain wasn’t exactly conventional.
Looking back on it, May wished that she hadn’t cared so much about what people around the grounds would have thought. She wished that she had been more liberal in her actions, perhaps she would have better made the most of the time that she had with Iain.
She smiled as she thought about how scared he had been when leaning in to make the first move toward her. It had been something that they both wanted, yet the fear in his eyes had caught her off guard. Iain was normally very poor when it came to showing his emotions, yet he was so timid at that moment that she wasn’t used to seeing that side of him.
In the coming months, May learned that he did it whenever he became nervous around her. Sometimes he would bring her flowers and suddenly would be too nervous to form proper sentences. She had found it so sweet, but looking back at it, she realized just how much of his innocence he had lost when she had sent him away. May started to question whether what she was doing was the best idea, but there wasn’t any alternative that she could think of.
They rode up the side of the glen cautiously. May didn’t realize until she looked back at the castle just how much she was terrified of what they were doing. Yet she knew that if Iain were to see the fear in her eyes, he wouldn’t let her go out like that for the coming months.
The landscape looked dry, a contrast to the usual greenery that was so vibrant and appeared to celebrate nature that extended out in every direction. The sun was bleaching the land around them and taking all moisture out of the ground. May worried for the farmers in the neighboring towns that their crops wouldn’t survive until the harvest time.
However, that was simply one of the many worries that were whirling around her head at that moment. Her mind quickly drifted back to what the healer had told her that morning and the new challenges that it brought to her world.
“All right, we’re here,” May stopped at the specific tree that they had leaned on so many times before.
