And it felt like anything might just happen, because judging by the look in his eyes, Beathan was on fire. His shining green eyes pierced through her as the murky gray skies deepened overhead.
It looked as if it were about to rain, but, at that moment, Edme couldn’t care less. All she was interested in was staying with Beathan.
Edme shivered as a tingle burned through her. And it looked as if it had transmitted to him. Beathan was wearing an expression of total absorption.
“Mm,” moaned Beathan, as if he too had never felt such exquisite emotion before. She didn’t know, but from the look of him, he hadn’t been expecting this any more than she had.
Beathan tightened his grip on her, pushing her back against the rock.
Despite the scattered remains of the soldiers scattered around them, the pair had quickly forgotten about the grisly ordeal. The only thing that mattered now was each other.
All Edme could think about was Beathan’s scent. She had never noticed it before; but it hovered like a cloud, masculine and sweet, above her.
“C’mon,” Beathan muttered, laying her down in the grass. Edme wanted nothing more than to yield to his soft touch, his tender fingers driving her crazy.
Now Edme knew what she had been missing her whole life. No other lad had ever made her feel like this. Of course, she had never been touched like this by any other lad. But, perhaps, that was because she had never wanted to be. None of the lads of the McKinley clan had ever interested her enough.
Edme tensed as ripples of pleasure moved through her whole body.
She wasn’t about to admit it yet, but her aloof appearance during their teenage years was simply that; an outward appearance. It had been an act, designed to put Beathan off the scent.
She had always liked him, but nothing she did ever got his attention – not even nearly poisoning him! In those days, he had eyes for only one girl, the daughter of the neighboring Ross clan Laird.
Even now, as they lay together, Edme still felt a little jealous of Sheelagh Ross. Edme thought that they would have been married by now, so finding him still single had been a surprise.
The feel of Beathan’s face, so soft and smooth, chased her green-eyed thoughts away. One by one, his kisses teased more sensations from her; as he planted one on her chin, then another on the nape of her neck.
As his lips trailed further down her collar bone, she was pulled under his spell, overwhelmed by the scent of his body and the gentle touch of his hands.
Nerves sent pleasure rippling through her body as his hands moved over her stomach and upward, while his mouth moved down her collar bone towards her heaving chest. He lingered there a while, his hand coming up and cupping her bosom, while he ran his finger gently across the skin that peeked over her dress.
Edme groaned. Somewhere deep inside, she felt damp, then twitches of ecstasy, as his fingers roamed beneath her stays.
They were laced-up tight, but they didn’t stay like that for long, his enquiring fingers sending a frisson racing through her.
Edme could only imagine what sort of a mess she looked, but Beathan just smiled, as if she were a wonder to behold.
“Beautiful,” he murmured, his approval showing in his gaze. He rained kisses down on her as she writhed underneath him, getting wetter and wetter.
“Och,” groaned Edme, barely able to contain herself. She knew this had to stop. It was too much for her to bear, and the sight of him overwhelmed her.
It was clear that he wanted to have his way with her, and Edme could think of nothing she wanted more. But there was the small matter of their mission to Duncan Castle.
Trying hard to bring herself back under control, Edme dug her fingers into Beathan’s flesh, hard. “Nae, Beathan, nae right now,” she murmured gently.
Beathan looked up from the worship of her body, dismayed. Disappointed, he withdrew his hands.
“Ye nae like it?” he asked, the uncertainty showing in his voice.
His looked so perplexed that all Edme wanted was to lay back and let him devour her as the sweet ache burned deeper inside her.
“Nae, I do,” she tried to explain. She wondered for a moment if he would be hurt or angry. But when she looked into his face, she was instantly reassured.
Beathan was sitting beside her, his head cocked to one side as if listening to the cold running burn.
“Dinnae fash, we will go at yer pace,” he said.
Edme quickly fastened her stays while her body screamed in protest, longing for Beathan to continue.
