“So how’s your love life?” Carter asked when Meredith was out of earshot. “Dana said you’re dating some guy and you’re in love?”

I blushed. “I’m not in love, I’m just trying to see where this all goes.”

“Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with being cautious.”

“Thank you. Now explain that to your wife.”

He shook his head. “No thanks. I don’t want her to bite my head off. You know how she gets when she swears she’s right.”

“Are we talking about Mom?” Meredith asked, popping back into the kitchen. “If so, you’re so right Carter, Mom hates to be wrong. She’s like allergic to it or something.”

We all started laughing and abruptly stopped when we heard someone clearing their throat. “I’m glad you guys are having a good laugh at my expense.”

Carter quickly walked over and embraced Dana, putting his chin on the top of her head as he gave us all as secret smile. “No one’s laughing at you sweetheart, I assure you. “

“Yeah, Mom” Meredith said with a straight face, “We’re just laughing with you.”

“Funny, I didn’t hear myself laughing.”

“Imagine that,” I said, smothering a giggle.

“So what are we talking about?” she asked from her husband’s embrace. I envied them. They loved each other always and just always knew it. Well, Carter always knew it. It was Dana who had taken a while to come around.

“We’re talking about Auntie Piper’s love life. Apparently, Infinity Connections is working out.”

I nodded. “Did you know that Danny’s uncle, isn’t really his uncle?”

“Huh?” she said clearly not knowing what I was talking about.

“Danny’s uncle, Ty, the guy I’m dating.”

“Ohhhh you hit it off with Ty. That’s even better. He thinks you’re hot and he’s the president of Infinity Connections.”

My good mood came crashing down. There was no way. I must have misheard her. “Hold on, Meredith. What did you just say?”

She looked at me curiously. “Which part? The part about Ty being the president of Infinity?”

“Yeah,” I said hoarsely. “Who told you that?”

“Danny did. That’s why his mother was able to go on so many free dates. She didn’t pay anything because Ty owns the company.”

I heard all I needed to hear. “Carter, Dana, thanks for having me.” I hugged Meredith. “I think I’m going to head home.”

Fighting back tears and ignoring their confused glances, I grabbed my purse in the living room and made my way to my car.

As I crossed the street, I heard Dana call out to me. “Piper, wait. What’s wrong? I saw your face back there. What’s going on?”

“I didn’t know Ty was the president of Infinity.”

“What do you mean?”

I took a deep breath and tried not to cry, “He never mentioned that to me. Not once.”

“I don’t understand. What’s the big deal? Why are you upset?”

I explained to her how he had told me that I was his match and how he had only recently signed up for the agency. “He lied to me, Dana. And played with my love life. He preyed on me. On my desire to be loved.”

Dana shook her head. “I’m sure there’s another explanation.”
