Chapter Eight
Emily openedher eyes to a brightly lit room. The sun was shining through the thin curtains making the whole place look and feel like a tanning bed. She clasped her hands over her eyes as she rolled over to bury her face in the pillow and try to achieve the illusion of some sweet darkness.
Her body was sore and aching. She had not run, crouched, or moved that fast in a long time and she was starting to think that she really needed to crank up the intensity of her morning runs. And the frequency, which for the past six months had gone from once a day to once every three days and from five miles to one mile. It was hard to keep that intensity up but she was now feeling it.
As she closed her eyes tightly and tried to burrow her face farther into the pillow she picked up the masculine scent of Alex lying beside her. She could not resist reaching out with her hand and laying her arm across his broad torso. He was still nude, the sheet mostly fallen off his body and she could happily feel the tight bed of muscles that lined his abdomen, cradled beneath her hand.
Last night had been amazing. The way that he fit inside of her and the strange way their very lives seemed to fit together was like something that she just could not explain. It was one of those things that you never really knew you wanted until it was in your life and then you wondered how in the world you ever lived a day without it.
The experience was still tripping her mind out as she tried to make sense of it. She had an overwhelming urge to scream it from the rooftops how much she felt for Alex and how happy she was now. Even though there was a government agency trying to kill them. That was putting a damper on things, but somehow having him by her side made it all ok and worthwhile. She found that when she really thought about it she was glad this had happened since it had brought them closer together. She knew it was maddening to think such a thing but she really did not care. And she did not care what anyone thought about it either. She knew how crazy her friends would say this was if they knew the half of it, but she was ok with it all.
She was ok with everything.
Emily was almost back to sleep when Alex shook her awake. She groaned and opened her eyes waiting for the sleepy blur to move out of her eyes so she could adjust her eye sight to the real world around her. She had been having such a sweet time about to drift off to sleep. It had been some time since she had felt so tired and so lazy. It was possible that the crash from the adrenaline that had coursed through her system for most of the previous evening had now emptied its reserves and she was left with what could only be described as the mother of all sugar crashes. Her body felt like a huge weight that did not want to comply with any demands that indicated movement.
As her eyes adjusted and the light began to eat away at the dark that had surrounded her a moment ago she began to see Alex’s beautiful, nude body standing in front of her. The rippling muscles, the golden tanned skin, the delicious flesh rod that stood at half-mast right in front of her face—it was all too irresistible.
Without even realizing it she found herself reaching for it, but Alex caught her hand in midair. He smiled at her and then smacked her on the ass.
“You’ve had enough of that for a while. We don’t have time; we have to go.”
Emily groaned as she rolled over and out from under the sheet that had been rocking softly against her skin with assistance from the air conditioning. The cool air invaded every open poor of her body and brushed against the dampness between her legs. She wanted more of Alex inside of her this morning, but he apparently had other ideas. The way he was able to restrain himself turned her on more and more. Now she was going to spend the entire day horny and bothered.
She would have to find another time to wear him down.
As she took a quick shower she was surprised at her own sex drive. It had been awakened on a vicious level and now all she was able to think about was getting Alex back inside of her at any moment that she could. It was like a life altering experience somehow and she was starting to remind herself of Laura or Ellie. She had never been a horn dog like those two were and she had prided herself on the fact that she had other things on her mind.
Maybe it was just because it was so good and so new and so exciting. That was a recipe for a total crush that could borderline on obsession from time to time. She had watched Dr. Phil enough to know that it was a real thing, but she was fine. She was just a woman who was falling in love and she was finally on the verge of being totally free and happy…
…if they could complete Alex’s mission without getting killed.
After a quick breakfast they hit the road heading to the airport. Alex had already booked the tickets while she was still asleep and he had arranged for a man in Siberia to take him to the site where his grandfather had buried the Seplika. Emily was not sure she fully understood the exact importance of the device, but Alex had already told her enough about it that she didn’t want to bother him anymore to explain it to her. The man was under enough stress and she wanted to let him stay focused on the task at hand which involved keeping them alive.
Emily had never flown out of the country before and she was excited to see the other side of the world. She had never had much wanderlust in her life and had never really thought much about traveling the globe any time soon. She figured maybe one day when she had a family she might be interested in doing something like that, but she had always been very happy living in her little bubble with her close group of friends and being close to home. If Emily had to admit it to herself she would say that she never really even liked to leave her house that much, except for work, but that was just a few blocks away. And she still hated the commute.
But she was looking forward to this trip. She just hoped that they were able to make it where they needed to go without alerting any of the agencies and groups who were looking for them. She was still trying to understand how there were that many people who were trying to destroy Alex simply because he was an alien. That sort of thing terrified people and they automatically assumed the worse. They figured if the alien race was that much more advanced than they were then they were going to use that power for evil and to gain even more power. While Alex had told her how there were alien races that were that way, most of them were just curious about their neighbors in the universe.
They made it to the airport and began the trek towards reaching their flight. It was at this moment that Emily realized that she did not have a passport. How was she going to fly internationally without a passport? Had Alex even thought about that? Was he even concerned that this might hold them up just a slight bit!
“Alex. We don’t have passports,” Emily said through clenched teeth trying to be coy and not arouse any suspicion.
“It’s ok,” Alex said as he reached into his backpack and handed her a passport wallet. Inside was a perfect government issued passport for her.
“How did you get this?” Emily asked
Alex smiled. “It pays to know the right people.”
Emily shook her head. This was just another one of the little annoying secrets that Alex liked to keep inside of his brain. That was fine; she figured she would find them all out eventually and she was ok with waiting until then. Emily wasn’t sure if this annoyed her or if it totally turned her on. She supposed that it really did a bit of both. She had noticed that about her feelings for Alex. Her feelings of lust and want were deeply intermingled with her feelings of self-doubt and annoyance at Alex.
Miraculously they made it aboard the plane and took their seats much to Emily’s shock and awe. She was sweating profusely walking through the airport and through security even. She wasn’t sure why she was so scared about security, but it just seemed odd with all of the things they had already been through that they were going to be scrutinized and have to pass for normal. She kept waiting for that dreaded buzzer to start going off and alert the entire airport that they were not who they said they were.
As they walked through the airport Emily kept trying to keep her head forward and not pay attention to the people around her. She was terrified that someone was going to recognize them and they would have to fight for their lives once again. Surely they could make it through all of this unscathed and just make it to their plane without any problems. Was that too much to ask?
Alex was cool as a cucumber though. He acted like he had been through an Earthly airport a dozen times. He seemed to be enjoying the fact that every woman around him was leering at him and eyeing him like he was going to be their next lunch. Emily was beaming with pride to know that he was with her and that she had been with him in ways those women could only dream about just hours ago. Emily had never really felt like that before. She had never had a guy that all of the other women drooled over. She had never been popular enough, or in enough activities, or the right clique, or just the flavor of the month during her high school and college years. She wanted to grab Alex and kiss him to let everyone know that she was his but she knew that would draw attention. Right now they just wanted to slip right under the radar and be on their merry way. She could relax on the plane.
The second her ass hit the seat on the plain Emily sighed a huge breath of relief and sank down into the seat. She was sweating bullets and she wiped her brow with the back of her blouse hoping that no one was noticing that she looked like she had just run ten blocks at full speed. She appeared to be in decent shape, she supposed, but when she was naked she could see the small amount of fat that covered up her muscle tone.
Alex slid into his seat beside hers and she was happy to see that no one was going to be sitting on either side of them. That would have been the last straw and she was sure that she might have begun to freak out visibly. Even though they were on the plane Emily did not feel that they were out of the water yet. There could have been members of the Russian mob or the government on the plane. They could have been setting them up for all she knew. She would not totally rest easy until the mission was done. But then what? Would Alex leave her? Would he be gone once his mission was done? She really did not want to think about those things, but they were pertinent observations and facts. After his mission, would Alex stick around? Did he feel the same way about her that she did about him?
