Chapter Seven
“I want to know,” Emily said.
“What?” Alex replied.
“I want to know. I want to know who shot you. I want to know why you are going all the way to a mountain in Siberia. I think I deserve to know.”
The two of them were lying on the bed in the hotel trying to get some sleep, but neither having much success in the matter. No words had been spoken for about twenty minutes and Emily was enjoying the silence, but the noise in her head was threatening to destroy all of that. She had too many questions and they were going to keep her awake until she got them answered.
“I can’t,” Alex said. “And I told you why.”
“That is not acceptable. I saved your life. You owe me.”
“I saved your life; we are even now. We already went over this.”
“You have made me well aware of the risks and dangers involved in me knowing about everything that is going on and I’ve come to accept it. I accept that challenge. It’s my life and I will decide what danger I deal with.”
Alex breathed a long sigh. He looked at her with those steel, cold eyes but he still didn’t speak. It was as if he was gathering his thoughts or trying to package the details in a way that she would understand.
“I’m waiting. Just hit me with it. I’m a big girl; I can handle myself,” Emily said. She was getting rather irritated by the lack of faith that she would be able to handle knowing about Alex. Or maybe he was just one of those people who loved to keep things secret from everyone around them to try to make themselves seem special. She hated those people.
“Ok. I’m going to Siberia to dig up a device called the Seplika.”
“What the hell is that?” Emily asked.
“It’s a device that can transform the lions on Earth into lion hybrids like me. It will change them back to who they used to be before they got stranded here and trapped within their permanent lion form.”
“So you are saying that the lions on the Earth are not supposed to be here and they are like you?” Emily asked.
“Yes.”
“How did they get that way?”
“Their ship crash landed here thousands of years ago. They were in their computer induced dream state but they remained stuck there when the ship crashed. They were left without the ability to shift or even to reason like a person. They are in a sense still half-asleep. This will bring them back and we can bring them home.”
“So, why is this Seplika thing here?”
“My Grandfather Niles came here to hide the Seplika, but he was discovered by the government and was not able to complete his mission. Luckily he decided to hide the Seplika where it would never be disturbed and return back home to gather more forces. He was warned not to go on this mission because our people needed their king. We were involved in a war with some neighboring planets.”
“Why did your grandfather want to hide the Seplika?”
“Because if it was discovered by our enemies then they could use it to take away our ability to shift and then we would have been at a severe disadvantage.”
“Your ability to fight is dependent on the shift? I imagine your weapons are pretty advanced.”
“They can be, but in my solar system using weapons to fight is considered to be barbaric and not a proper way of doing combat. We fight in close quarters for the most part. It is a free for all. Having the shift strongly enhances our ability to fight.”
“I see. It is so different then here. I have no idea why you would even want to study us in the first place,” Emily said.
“We enjoy studying lots of different worlds and the aliens there. We love Earth because you are biologically very similar to us. Our human side is the same as yours. We just have the added benefit of the shift. It might be because we are about the same distance from our sun as you are from yours.”
“Wow, this is all so fascinating,” Emily said.
She locked eyes with Alex right then. He had the most gorgeous eyes she had ever become entranced inside of. When she looked into them it was like the sea was parting and just waiting for her to walk through the waters.
Alex was still naked. He seemed to prefer it to being clothed and the way he said it he felt that she had already seen him so he had nothing to hide. He didn’t seem to care that it made her a bit nervous. But maybe he knew that she was only nervous because she was so turned on. Did he want to turn her on? Was he just trying to tell her that it was inevitable that they would be together?
She wanted to reach out and grab his long, thick member so badly, but she knew that she couldn’t. It felt so right but she knew that it was wrong. She could not get the thought out of her head. Her eyes kept dropping from his just enough that she could see it out of the corner of her eye. The sheet had been peeled back from his long, well-muscled body. His thick tool lay back lazily against his hard, chiseled abs. Emily had never seen a man with a more perfectly proportioned physique.
