David followed her up the ladder, only so she wouldn’t slip and end up breaking her neck. If someone told this girl not to do something, she was sure to want to do it. He liked her spark and excitement to try new things, but her curiosity was going to get her in trouble.
“All right, so this is the hayloft,” he said, holding up the lantern. “Are you happy now?”
“What are all these blankets here?” She sat down atop one and got comfortable.
“James sleeps up here in the hay sometimes. It’s warmer than down below.”
“Sit next to me,” she said, patting the blanket next to her. “Sit down and tell me your dream now.”
He hung the lantern on a hook and took a seat next to her, putting his arm around her.
“This is nice,” she said, leaning her head against his chest.
“Yes. Nice and private.” He kissed her atop the head.
“Tell me, now,” she said, looking up at him with those beautiful eyes that seemed more green than brown in the light of the lantern.
“Martine, you are beautiful and I’m sure many men have had lusty dreams about you and that I am not the first.” He cupped her cheek and kissed her softly on the lips. The kiss lingered and slowly their lips parted.
“I’ve never heard of any man dreaming about me before now,” she told him. “Tell me more.”
“We were up here in the hayloft and we were… we were…”
“Making love,” she finished his sentence for him.
“Yes,” he said. “How did you know?”
“I was dreaming of making love with you, too.”
“I’ll bet your dream wasn’t as hot as mine.”
“We were naked, and our bodies were pressed together,” she told him, making him feel embarrassed to hear her saying this aloud.
“Martine, please. It’s not proper.”
“Nay, it wasn’t, and I loved every minute of it. I am so tired of always being told to only do the proper thing. Were we naked in your dream as well?”
“Yes. Very much so.” He reached out and let his fingers trail down her neck, fumbling with the ties of her bodice.
“Are you going to lick me?” she asked, shocking him even more.
“What?” he asked, laughing.
“I heard Cinnamon telling one of her customers to lick her and that she would lick him back. What does that mean?”
“You are precious,” he said, kissing her again. “And so innocent. I love that.”
“I’m not as innocent as you think,” she said, surprising him once again.
“What do you mean?”
“I’m not a virgin, in case you are wondering. Therefore, if we make love, you won’t be taking my maidenhead.”
“You’re not a virgin?” He pulled back and looked at her in question.
“It was only once and a few years ago. I was curious about it and so when the son of a baron and I were alone in the larder, we did it. Actually, he did it and I just let him. It was far from special.”
David was almost relieved to hear that she wasn’t a virgin. If she were, he would never even consider making love with her because he wouldn’t ruin her chances of marrying a rich nobleman who wanted an untouched woman.
