“I’m no’ sure yet. Tell Nash and North there might be trouble. Then all of ye, meet me in the great hall in fifteen minutes.”
“Aye.” Gavin hurried away while Cam pulled Red and Violet over to the side. Yvaine was with them.
“Stop cryin’ and tell me how the hell Keithen ended up in the dungeon,” said Cam.
Yvaine didn’t give her a chance to answer. “If ye told Dun’s brathair, Bart, the truth, then I should be imprisoned, no’ Keithen.”
“Aye, I agree,” said Red. “But I didna say who hit Dun and caused his death. I did, however, tell him who was in the room when we hauled away his body.”
“Keithen didna want anythin’ to happen to ye, Yvaine,” explained Violet. “That is why he took the blame. He said he and Dun had a spat and he hit him over the head, but never meant to kill him.”
“Nay!” cried Yvaine, gripping tightly to Cam’s arm. “I willna let my brathair die for somethin’ I did.”’
“Calm down, Yvaine, no one is goin’ to die.” Cam looked back at the whores. “Is there a trial scheduled?”
“Aye,” said Violet. “First thing tomorrow mornin’.”
“Cam, please do somethin’ to help Keithen. Ye’ve got to help him,” begged Red.
“I will. Now, everyone stop all the shoutin’. Violet, ye and Red go back to the tavern, and dinna say a word about anythin’ to anyone. Understand? I am goin’ to the dungeon to talk to Keithen.”
“I’m comin’ with ye,” said Yvaine. “I will no’ let my brathair die, no matter what I have to do to stop it.”
Cam didn’t like the sound of that. “Dinna do anythin’ stupid, Yvaine. Please, just let me and my friends handle this. Just stay quiet.” Cam headed to the castle with Yvaine at a brisk pace, getting a sinking sensation in his chest. This wasn’t going to end well, he just knew it. What he didn’t know was what he could do to save both Yvaine and Keithen’s lives.
