Excitement grew within her. “Aye,” she answered with a giggle.

In a moment, he had her off the bed and she clung to him with her legs spread, gripping him around his waist. With her hands on his shoulders, she helped in the dance of love, moving up and down on his slick shaft, both of them moaning in delight.

“Och, lassie, ye are drivin’ me from my mind.” His tongue shot out and he managed to lick her cleavage. Then he had her back up against the wall as he thrust into her again, making her cry out in elation as she reached her peak, no longer able to hold back.

“Are ye sated?” he asked, breathing heavy, holding off until he knew she’d found her release.

“Oh, yes,” she said, barely able to breathe.

“Guid,” he answered, taking her back to the bed, lying down with her on top of him, never breaking the connection.

“What are ye doin’, Hawke?”

“I want ye to do it again,” he said, sounding as if he were going to explode.

“What do ye mean? Find my release again?”

“Aye.”

“That isna possible.”

“Och, yes it is, lass. Let me help ye.”

He reached up and pulled at her nipple with his lips, slightly grazing her with his teeth. Then, holding her hips he squeezed her back end, he pumped into her, making her come to life all over again.

“Oooh,” she moaned, feeling her body responding to his advances. Then he hit a spot she didn’t know existed and it felt so good that she cried out loudly. It was more like a scream. “Oooh, Hawke!”

“That’s what I wanted to hear,” he told her, this time rolling atop her and continuing to make love until he filled her with his seed of life.

Both of them hot, wet, and sated, they collapsed atop the bed, holding each other, trying to regain their breathing.

“That was . . . amazin’,” she said.

“Ye are amazin’,” he replied. “I didna mean for that to happen, lass.”

“Neither did I. But I suppose now, we’re really lovers.”

“Aye. Enemies and lovers,” he said, closing his eyes and falling asleep.

Phoebe didn’t expect him to say that. After their intimate time together, she didn’t think he’d still consider her the enemy. If she wasn’t so tired from making love and so lightheaded from the Mountain Magic, mayhap she could have thought of escaping. But instead, she leaned her head on Hawke’s chest and went to sleep.

Chapter 16

Hawke stirred restlessly in his sleep as his nightmare once more returned.

“Osla, ye stay here while I go after the deer,” said Hawke, taking an arrow from his quiver and moving forward on his horse through the woods. Hawke’s skill with the sword was phenomenal, but he only used the bow and arrows to hunt.

This was the first time Hawke went on the hunt with the MacNabs since he married Osla MacNab to make an alliance with the MacKeefes’ enemy. Osla lived with the MacKeefes and Hawke didn’t know many of the men from her clan, nor did he want to.

Angus MacNab was their chieftain and he was on the hunt as well. He lined up the shot, but when a MacNab came bounding through the forest on his horse, the deer doubled back the way they’d come.

“There it goes,” said the MacNab. “Shoot it, fast, before it gets away.”

“It’s too far,” he said, but the MacNab wouldn’t let up.

“Do it, if ye want to gain favors in our chieftain’s eyes.”

Hawke wanted this alliance between the clans to go well. For seven months now he’d been married to Osla and he still felt like an outsider around the MacNabs. He didn’t love Osla and she seemed to have no desire to be with him. Still, he was her husband and her protector.
