Except… there was a catch.
Isn’t there always?
As my body healed over the ensuing months, I came to realize I was sharing my psyche with something else.
A wild beast roamed inside my skull, day and night. The bastard intruded on my thoughts, hijacked my dreams.
At first, I thought I was hallucinating.
But finally, it clicked.
The savage wolf who saved me from an untimely death, who gave me back my name, my identity, my free will, had attached a hefty price tag to that gift.
It had turned me into a fucking werewolf.
So now there are two of us co-habiting inside my head. Let’s say we’ve formed an uneasy truce, a strange and unpredictable partnership over the past three years.
So let us tell you what happens next…
CHAPTER 1
JAX
Digger’s Diner is pumping tonight.
Tippy is at the counter, handing out pints of frothy beer and bright green smoothies, her pointed ears flicking as she laughs and flirts with the monsters that line the bar.
They all gawk at her.
I don’t blame them.
She’s looking super cute in her white shirt with the hot pink Digger’s insignia, and a short black skirt that shows off her shapely legs. Bright red pixie-cut hair frames her pointed face, and her pretty mouth exposes a perfect row of small white teeth as she laughs. Her huge amber eyes sparkle happily.
How dare she look happy?
I haven’t been in here for two weeks. Damn it, she should be watching the fucking door, waiting for me to walk through it.
Pining for me.
But she didn’t even acknowledge me as I strolled nonchalantly past, my hands in the pockets of my black denim jeans.
I’m heading toward the bar when my inner wolf growls, Don’t even think about it.
Think about what? I thought-beam back.
Groveling.
I’ve no intention of groveling, asshole.
Yeah, you’re thinking about it, my wolf snorts. Whenever it does that, I have the urge to sneeze.
“Don’t interfere,” I mutter under my breath, hitching my butt onto a stool at the end of the bar.
You’re so fucking pussy whipped, my wolf mutters.
Truth is, my wolf is pissed that I’m here. It’s been doing its best to keep me away from Tippy these past couple of weeks, giving me dizzy spells and headaches every time I’ve tried to make contact with her. Having the fucker sneering at me now is not helping the situation.
Since I shifted, my wolf’s presence has been getting more insistent. It’s like it’s taking up more real estate in my body.
