“Shit,” I whispered, dragging the word out. That was so fucking erotic. Releasing him, I pinched the head of my own erection, savoring the pressure. “Dammit.”

His breathing pattern changed and I tensed, feeling his stare. Gulping down the constriction in my throat, I rolled my head and found him wide awake, staring at me.

“Hey,” I whispered. “Is, uh…Piera asleep?”

“Yeah.”

“Oh. Um. Okay.”

He looked away, turned to his side, and hissed on his teeth to stand. Moving stiffly, he walked around the foot of the bed, his stare locked on mine the whole time. He went to the door, paused, and then locked it. My heart skipped a beat, my insides shaking as he made his way back to the other side of the bed. Gradually lowering to his knee, he crawled closer and, for a moment, I thought he would take out his dick, jack off, and cum on me again.

Instead, he carefully laid on his side, slid one arm beneath my shoulders, the other tenderly resting across my upper torso, away from the holes in my gut. Scooting closer, he simply laid down, nuzzled my cheek, and went back to sleep.

Every nerve prickled with energy, reveling this newfound pleasure. My hand shaking, I cupped his elbow, placed a kiss to his forehead, and drifted off, as well. This time, feeling his strength around me, none of the nightmares that had been plaguing me every night since the shootout haunted my slumber. In fact, I dreamed of slow, passionate, sensual love making between me and my best friend.

I strolled out of my bathroom with two large bowls of warm water, one with liquid soap, the other clear. A washcloth draped over my wrist, I came to an abrupt halt when my sight fell on Dash, fully naked, lying in my bed. Some of the water splashed out and my heart crashed on my ribs, shallowing my breaths as my focus roamed along his figure.

His head rolled on the pillow to look at me, his brows furrowing. “You okay?”

Looking away, I nodded awkwardly and cleared my throat. “Mm hm. Just, uh, making sure I have everything.”

His head lifted off the pillow to stare down his torso, his finger on the edge of the worst injuries. “Shit. Does that look infected? It’s getting infected. Is it red to you?”

Huffing, I went forward, setting the bowls on the nightstand I’d cleaned off beforehand. Sitting in the chair from the dining room, I scooted closer and dipped the cloth into the soapy water. “It’s fine, Dash. Ain’t nothing infected.”

“You sure? It looks puffy.”

“It’s a fucking hole in your gut, of course it is.”

“So, it’s infected, then, huh?”

“It’s fine,” I chuckled, squeezing out the excess water. Turning on the seat to reach him, I motioned and snapped, “Lay the fuck down so I can clean you. You been bitching about how sweaty you been, now stop.”

Groaning, he plopped back to the pillow, the heel of a hand digging into his eye. “I’m losing my fucking mind, Vin. I ain’t built to lay around all damn day. I wanna get back in the gym. What about the Serpents?”

“I spoke with The Boss this morning, the Serpents are doing just fine without us.”

“And that don’t piss you off?”

“Why would that piss me off?” I argued, shrugging my arms out, my shoulders curling to my ears.

Lifting to his elbow, he was scowling, pointing. “Because it means we’re expendable, and I don’t like being expendable.”

I lowered my gaze and shook out the cloth. No, shit. Neither did I.

“If they’re doing everything just fine without us, why they need us to begin with?”

My concentration snapping back to his, I seethed, “Because I’m the new fucking leader, and they ain’t shit without a leader. Now shut up and lay down. I got shit to do today.”

“Yeah, like what since they doing so good without us?”

“Laundry. Your daughter needs clothes. She needs lunches made for school for the week. I gotta check her homework. Shit to do, man.”
