“Dizziness?”
Arching my brows, I again shook my head. “Mm mm.”
“That’s good.”
“So, what’s wrong with her? Why did she faint? Is she okay?”
He huffed and slumped his shoulders forward, flipping the top back to reveal the pages beneath. “Your wife is fine, sir. She does not have that virus that’s been going around her work though.”
“Well, then what’s wrong?”
“She’s pregnant.”
I bolted upright, accidentally shoving Milo off in my hastiness. My heart crashing on my ribs, I instantly began to hyperventilate. Sweat coating my body, I folded both hands over my chest, my eyes feeling as if they were about to pop out my skull.
Milo blanched, his jaw falling. “Pregnant?”
“Yes, sir. We aren’t sure how far along until we do an ultrasound, but we ran the blood sample twice, just to make sure. You’re pregnant,” he stated, directing his attention to me.
Milo lunged to his feet, spun around, and gathered me into his arms, laughing hysterically. Dumbstruck, I stared at the ceiling, my nails digging into his back.
Pregnant? But how? I never took myself off the pill. How did this happen?
Hope of running away sank to the bottom of my stomach and my eyelids slowly closed. Fate was such a cruel and spiteful bitch. So much for being long gone before this happened. Apparently, I wasn’t going any goddamn where any time soon.
“I love you so much, baby,” he choked in my ear, scattering kisses all over my face. “You’ve just made me the happiest man in the world. Oh my god, we’re having a baby! This is fantastic.”
Yeah. Fantastic. Now was it my husband’s baby, or his best friend’s, my lover’s?
Chapter 41
Amanda Pampinella
My knees were wobbling, my heart racing so erratically, it was a wonder I wasn’t having a heart attack. Still, my chin held high, my shoulders squared, I strode through my home with an air of confidence I absolutely did not feel deep down inside. A tall, muscular bodyguard on either side, I ignored the gasps and odd looks from the house staff, hearing their faint murmurs about me being back so unexpectedly. Apparently, good old Jack didn’t think I was ever returning.
Good. That meant I had the element of surprise on my side. Thankfully, or all three of us would probably already have been shot.
Climbing the stairs as quickly as my shaking muscles would allow, I made a bee line straight to his office. Not bothering to knock, I shoved open the double doors and pranced right in. My feet stumbling over themselves, I choked on a gasp, my jaw falling with horror.
My husband was on his knees, Congressman Alberts’s dick in his mouth. The sudden intrusion had them flustered, Jack hopping to his feet while his lover frantically tugged his trousers to his waist.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” he bellowed, eyes bulging, mouth gaping.
My features scrunching with disgust, some of my nerves settled as my arms crossed, my weight leaning to one leg. “Well, well, well.”
Alberts scurried behind the desk, snatching his suit jacket from the chair while Jack tugged the tie’s knot back to his throat.
“Listen, Amanda, I can explain—”
Flashing a brilliant smile, an eerie calmness seeped through my system. Videos or no videos, that was three eyewitnesses that just busted them in their sordid affair. He was screwed.
“Oh, honey,” I sighed, strolling to the cabinet to the left. Flinging open the doors, I dug the SD card from my purse and pushed it into the television’s slot. “There’s no need to explain anything. I completely understand.”
Gulping loudly, his Adam’s apple lurching, his sight was darting between me and my guards. His chest heaving with labored breaths, he crept closer, sweat sheening his face. “You…do?”
I twirled about with a brilliant grin, my nose wrinkling. “It’s okay, honey.”
A jagged breath pulled through his opened mouth, his light lashes blinking rapidly. “It is?”
