Grunting, he abruptly removed it and I crumbled to the mattress, gasping for air, feeling as if my soul had left my body and was hovering at the ceiling. Convulsing, twitching, moaning, and just writhing everywhere, my system trying to process what the hell he just did to my body, I was vaguely aware he was licking his fingers while staring at me with smoldering eyes.

After what felt like hours, my soul floated back into my frame and my muscle spasms slowed.

Wyatt grabbed my chin and yanked me to look at him now that I was fully coherent. Seething, he whispered, “You ever try to leave me again, kitten, you won’t have to worry about what Milo will do if he caught us, because I’ll take care of the situation my goddamn self.”

Tears burst forth and I was weeping, my palms clapping over my face. I had heard women my whole life talk about how they wished they had a man who loved her so much, they were willing to kill for her, idealizing all the alpha males they read about in their romance novels.

They said that, but until they had not one, but two men who said it and meant it, they would never understand. They could keep their men willing to kill, I just wanted a man willing to be faithful.

“Now, are you ready to be a good girl and listen to me?”

“Do I have a choice?” I squeaked, jutting my hips in the air to pull my pants up.

“The woman you heard me talking to last night is not my woman. You are my woman. I told you, there’s been no one but you. I’m not like Milo, I don’t need more than one pussy. I got the best, anyone else is just wasting my time.”

Batting my lashes, I gazed at him sadly. “I don’t understand.”

Heaving a sigh, he scooted to the edge of the mattress and stood to pace. One hand on his hip, he started out rubbing his chin, but his lids closed when he smelled me on his fingers and groaned, licking at them a second time.

I bit my bottom lip, getting turned on watching him. Sitting up, I folded my legs and hugged a pillow to my chest, following his angry, back and forth traipsing.

“What I am about to tell you goes no further than you and me, understand? No one can know.”

My lids started to widen, my pulse slowing. “What’s going on?”

He heaved a groan and leaned on the dresser, his arms crossed, his head tilted, his ominous stare bearing down on mine. “Meyers didn’t die in a car accident, he was murdered.”

Chapter 28

Chastity Monroe

Shock swept through me, my jaw falling. “What?”

An arm crossed his chest, his elbow propped on top to rub at his face. Again, he stopped to smell my scent, and I really wish he’d quit because it turned me on to see how enamored he was by my aroma.

Shaking his head, he dipped his chin and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Jack had him killed because he and Amanda fell in love, had an affair, and now she’s pregnant with his son.”

Horrified, I scrambled to my knees, a palm pressed to my stomach. “What?”

“Amanda was supposed to be in the car with him, but one of her kids got sick at school, so she had a change of plans.”

“Oh…my god.”

“Yup. Long story short, she faked a miscarriage and a mental breakdown and ‘ran away’ Wednesday,” he grumbled, hooking his fingers in the air. “In reality, I’ve got her locked in a cabin in the middle of the woods in Wisconsin. She’s going to stay there until she has the baby and then I’m going to raise him.

“I’m going to start a lie that I’ve been dating this chick named Melinda the last few months, and she’s the mom who leaves me right after the baby is born.

“Then, once Amanda is healed from giving birth, she’s going to go home to Jack—”

“He’ll still kill her!” I shrieked, my hand covering my mouth.

His sight flitted to mine through his lashes, his fingers fanned out next to his jaw. “Yeah, we know that, but the baby lives, and I get a son to protect yours without having to sleep with another chick.”

Dumbfounded, I inched to the corner of the bed closest him, twining my fingers together anxiously. “You’re…doing all this…for me?”

“Yes,” he muttered with a tone that told me he was confused I was surprised.

“This is a very very tricky plan, Wyatt, and if anyone finds out, they’ll…k-kill you.”
