Chapter 6
Chastity Monroe
“Okay, baby. Hang on.” I tucked the phone to my jaw and called out Wyatt’s name.
He grunted, dropping a box to the floor in my new master suite. Hissing through his clenched teeth, he rubbed at his back, his face coated in sweat. “What?” he snapped, sneering.
Not even phased by his attitude, for I’d been listening to it for three days, I rolled my eyes and asked, “Milo wants to know if that issue with the old penthouse was taken care of.”
He tensed, his lids narrowing. Stomping toward me, he wiggled his fingers and snatched my phone. “Really?” He turned his back to me and bowed his head. “No, no, I took care of it. Mm hm, no, you were right. That, uh…ahem. That entire lead turned out to be a dud. Nothing there. Yeah. Uh huh. I, uh huh. It’s done. All right.”
Twisting his waist, he shoved his arm out to give me back the phone. Hesitantly taking it, I held his stare and spoke to Milo.
“Everything okay?”
“Oh, yeah, just loose ends needed taken care of before I broke the lease.”
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes that we were keeping up the pretense, for I had a feeling he knew I knew the truth. Seemed like we were both in denial.
“So, it’s done?”
“Yup. Just have to sign the paperwork when I get back to town in a couple days. How’s the move going?”
Wyatt broke the stare and hastily kicked the box out of his way, bounding down the stairs with a slew of cursing. He really was in a foul temper these days.
“We should be done by tomorrow.”
“Well, don’t bother unpacking until I get there. I didn’t mean to ditch you when you moved into the house, but this really was something that couldn’t be ignored. Dad and Jack needed my help on this one. When I get there, I’m going to help you.”
“It’s fine, really. I don’t mind. I like doing this.”
“Really? This is your third home in a year, aren’t you tired of this?”
“Yeah, well, it’s my last, right?”
He chuckled. “If this is where you want us to live forever, then yes. We’re there as long as you want, baby girl. Just…promise me if you decide to move again one day, you let me in on it before you go off and buy another house.”
Snickering, I bit my bottom lip. “I promise.”
“It really is a gorgeous house, Chazzy. You did good. It’s perfect for us.”
“You like it?”
“I liked it better after making you cum in half the rooms.”
My cheeks burned with another giggle. “Well, when you get home, you’ll just have to finish what we started.”
A hard thud vibrated through the floor, startling me. Snapping my attention up, I stared at Wyatt standing over a new box he haphazardly dropped by the opening.
I cleared my throat, scratching behind my ear. “I gotta go.”
“All right, I should get going, too. I miss you.”
“Miss you, too.”
“Love you.”
Shrinking, I dipped my head and muttered, “I love you, too.”
