"My queen," Serena's voice cut through my thoughts. She looked concerned. "Are you all right? You look pale."

"I'm fine." I snapped back, forcing a smile.

"Please, come in." Serena stepped aside. "It's cold out."

I hesitated, then entered.

The room was warm. A fire crackled in the hearth. The air smelled of herbs. Shelves lined the walls, crowded with bottles and plants I couldn't name.

Had she been killed by the Black Witches or Victoria after I passed out last time?

Guilt twisted in my chest.

"My queen," she said quietly, "some fates are fixed. Unchangeable."

My heart slammed. "What do you mean?"

"I foresee a calamity ahead for you. But I can't see what it is." Serena spoke slowly. "This calamity is unavoidable. You will face it."

I froze.

Calamity. Fate.

I still couldn't escape? I'd still die in those flames?

No! I came back to rewrite my fate. To protect my child. I would not repeat the past!

I looked at Serena, wanting to beg her to look again, to find a way through this—
