I could see the unbuttoned collar of his shirt, the shadowed hollow of his collarbone, his Adam's apple bobbing with each breath, a bead of sweat on his skin sliding down those lines.
My breathing faltered.
The kiss from that night suddenly replayed in my mind.
My face began burning.
"Elena?"
His voice pulled me back. I jerked back a step, my back hitting the shelf. Bottles rattled behind me.
"I-I'm fine." My voice shook.
He watched me, his mouth slowly curving. "You're blushing."
"No."
"Yes." He stepped forward. Instinctively, I tried to retreat, but the shelf was right behind me. Nowhere to go.
He reached out, fingertips lightly touching my cheek. "Hot."
My breathing completely unraveled.
His fingers traced from my cheek to my chin, then my neck. His touch was gentle, like stroking something fragile, fingertips leaving trails of fire across my skin.
"Elena..."
He lowered his head, forehead against mine. I could feel his breath on my lips, feel his body heat through our clothes, feel his heartbeat syncing with mine.
My wolf whimpered softly inside me, lying down, tail slowly wagging behind it.
Just as he was about to kiss me, a phone rang.
Sharp, jarring, shattering the moment.
I shoved him away and pulled out my phone. Unknown number.
"Hello?" I answered, voice still unsteady.
"Is this Anya's parent?" A woman's voice, somewhat rushed. "This is her teacher, Ms. Brown. Anya had an incident at school. Can you come?"
My blood turned to ice.
"What incident? What happened to her?" My voice rose, fingers gripping the phone white-knuckled.
"I can't really explain over the phone." The teacher's tone was uncomfortable. "Can you come as soon as possible? The principal's office."
"I'll be right there."
I hung up, grabbed my bag, and bolted.
"Elena—" Lucifer caught me. "What's wrong?"
"Something happened to Anya." My voice shook, my whole body shook. "At school. The teacher wants me at the principal's office."
His face darkened. "I'll take you."
"But the shop—"
