I smiled.
Me: Then stop texting me.
Ma Belle: You told me to text you later.
Me: I did.
Ma Belle: So this is your fault
Me: Everything’s my fault, Cher.
Ma Belle: At least you admit it
Me: Go eat dinner. Text me before bed.
Ma Belle: Bossy
Me: You like it.
Ma Belle: Maybe
There was that damn word again.
Maybe.
Not yes.
Not no, either.
For now, I’d have to live with maybe.
I set my phone on my thigh and leaned back against the couch.
Behind the double doors, church was starting. Around me, the clubhouse carried on. Nobody knew about the woman responsible for turning Romeo into a bastard who stared at a single word and smiled.
They could keep wondering.
Fiona had spent enough of her life with other people deciding things for her.
I wasn’t going to decide this one.
Not for her.
CHAPTER THREE
Romeo
The clubhouse was always quiet in the winter months. King and the officers were once again holed up in church, Tank and Big Ben were towing cars from snowbanks, and Ace was probably tangled up with Crystal or Jade. Maybe both. The furnace coughed beneath the silence, losing its fight with the cold.
Snow crowded the window in heavy flakes, swallowing the parking lot one tire track at a time. I tucked my hands beneath my arms. Louisiana cold had never bitten through walls and leather like this.
My phone buzzed.
Ma Belle: I have a complaint about your playlist
I grinned as I unlocked the screen.
Me: Impossible. It’s flawless.
