I walked over and placed my hand on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry. That had to be really scary.”
He released a humorless chuckle. “Beyond scary, love.” He pulled his phone from his pocket and glanced at the screen. “I hit PB up as soon as we got to the hospital, but he never called back.”
“Have you tried him again?”
“A few times.” He slid his phone back into his pocket, his eyebrows pulling together. “That’s weird as fuck. Lil’ bruh usually calls me right back.”
“Hopefully, he’s just been getting some rest.” I gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “You want a drink?”
He nodded slowly. “I could definitely use one.”
“I got you. Something brown on the rocks?”
“That’ll work.”
I returned to the minibar and searched through the different bottles of liquor, champagne, and wine until I found the Hennessy. I poured some into a glass, added ice, and carried it over to him.
As soon as I handed him the glass, his eyes traveled down my body again.
“Why you got that on?”
I glanced down at myself. “What do you mean?”
I pulled the sides of my robe together and tied the belt around my waist.
He took a sip of his drink without removing his eyes from me. “Don’t get me wrong, you look good as hell. I’m just tryna figure out who you’re trying to look good for.”
“Well, excuse me. Maybe I wanted to look good for myself. I don’t have to look a mess just because I’m going to bed, do I?”
“Nah, you don’t.”
He took another sip while staring directly into my eyes.
I returned to the island and leaned against it. The movement sent another sharp pain through my back, making me wince. I twisted my bottom half from side to side, trying to stretch the soreness away.
Ozy set his glass down. I was surprised when his large hands landed on my lower back.
“This still bothering you?”
“It’s been throbbing a little. Every once in a while, I keep feeling sharp pains.”
“Here. Let me help you with that.”
“No, it’s cool. You don’t have to.”
“I got you, love.”
His hands began moving in slow circles against my lower back. He applied a little pressure at first, but the higher he moved, the deeper the massage became.
Small circles. Bigger circles. Then his knuckles pressed into the tight muscles, working through every knot he found.
When I tell you that shit felt like heaven on earth.
I looked at him over my shoulder, and our eyes locked.
“Damn, that feels good.”
