“You could just stay home with me,” he suggests.
“Yeeaah. Saying no isn’t really any option. My absence will be noticed, and if I show up alone, I’m afraid Sarah will try to get a little too close.”
At the sound of Sarah’s name, Logan’s head whips toward me.
“Sarah? The girl who knows you’re practically engaged?”
“First of all, Kendra and I are not practically engaged. I haven’t even seen her in four months. Second, I don’t know that Sarah wants a relationship as much as she wants to casually hook up. She was very quick to tell me her boyfriend is in the military, but they have an open relationship when he’s on assignment—which he currently is. She was quick to tell me that, too.”
I scrub a hand down my face, and Logan snorts.
“So, you want me to intentionally cockblock you? Run cliterference if you will?”
“Ohmygod, did you just say cliterference?” I laugh.
“Yup. Also known as a clam jam…but I’m pretty sure that’s when a woman prevents another woman from getting laid,” he explains.
“Jesus. Stop. Will you please just come with me?”
“Fine. But it’ll cost you,” Logan negotiates.
“Anything.”
“Careful there, Dr. Matthews,” Logan warns. “I’ve got a lot of needs that aren’t being met at the moment.”
I quirk a brow at him.
“What? You want me to blow you in exchange for coming to this event?” I ask before shrugging a shoulder. “It’d probably be worth it.”
Logan’s eyes widen as a smirk dances on his lips.
“If you’re offering, I’m not gonna turn it down,” he says, trying hard to hide his laughter. “But it seems a little fucked up to block Sarah from getting laid just to end up with my dick in your mouth. I might be a dude, but I’m pretty sure that still counts as cheating.”
Does it?
Does a blowjob between buddies count as infidelity?
Wait, why the fuck am I actually contemplating this?
And when did this conversation turn serious?
A loud, blaring alarm pulls me from my spiral.
“Shit. I gotta roll,” Logan says, abandoning his book and coffee and practically sprinting out the door.
But I’m hot on his heels because I feel like this conversation needs closure.
Except I can’t talk because he’s got his phone on speakerphone.
“Life Flight Boston General, Metro Dispatch. Scene call to a medical emergency involving an exploded propane tank out in Concord. Two burn victims. One with minor injuries will be transported by EMS. Time out 15:32. Please advise when ready for your coordinates.”
“Metro Dispatch, LF1449 responding, copy scene call in Concord. 15:32. We have two crew on board. Fuel on board: one hour forty minutes. Stand by for coordinates.”
“Copy.”
I follow Logan, not giving a shit that I’m late for conference. Watching him in the zone like this is fascinating. I’ve never seen this side of things. I know he’s been doing this for years, and I’m just starting out, but I can’t imagine doing anything with the amount of confidence he’s exuding right now. It’s that ease and expertise that remind me Logan is eight years older than me.
He pushes into the flight locker room with me right behind him.
