“Alianazara…” He swallowed, eyes dark and glazed as he stared at my throat, at the pulse pounding, desperate, begging. For what, I didn’t understand and didn’t care, not when Leander ground me down, filling me with the last few inches of his cock.

“You don’t know what you’re asking for,” Verne breathed. I watched his throat bob and—my tongue was flat against it in the next second, the taste of his skin bursting in all my tastebuds. Salt and smoke and sweetness, more intense than anywhere else. The scent of him here, concentrated and so strong that it drowned all my senses in bliss… there was nothing like it in the whole world.

I was aware I was rubbing my cheek against his throat, my nose buried in his skin, but I couldn’t give a shit. If it felt right, why fight it?

“Are you—” Verne choked on his words again. “Are you scenting me, or covering yourself in my scent?”

“Yes,” I growled, low and ragged. My breath began to race, to shatter, as Leander dug his fingers into my waist, dimpling my skin as he guided me faster, faster. Desperation built between the two of us, so thick I could taste it.

Verne’s hand curved around the back of my head, something so sweet in the touch that it reached a quiet, vulnerable part of myself I kept trampled and hidden, where it couldn’t get hurt.

“Perfect girl,” he murmured, encouraging the lunacy of me rubbing my cheek on his throat. “Sweet mate. Your scent is so thick now, Sadie. Are you going to come for us?”

I nodded against his neck, my muscles winding tighter, pleasure an elastic band pulled taut inside me as Leander groaned, growled, and fucked me from below. His thrusts were fast, erratic, and so good. “Close,” I whimpered, and realised I still had a hand on Leander’s shoulder. I dug every fingernail into his skin and demanded his pace stay exactly like that, exactly like—

My head threw back as the elastic band snapped and pleasure struck. It crashed into me with lethal force, as if I’d reached out and dared to touch an electric fence, and I think my heart would have stopped if they hadn’t already made me more than human.

Better than human if this orgasm was anything to judge by. Just when I thought the waves would recede, the pleasure crackling through every nerve in my body would ebb away, my eyes rolled back, Leander’s thrusts quickened, frantic, and yet more pleasure charged through me before he withdrew until only the tip was inside me.

I expected him to growl with release, for an inhuman sound to rip from him, and I craved it. Breathless with anticipation of my mate coming. But it wasn’t a growl, it was a whimper, a soft sound that felt like a treasure, like a gift. I did that, made my mate sound like that. My wolf was whining too, surging up as if she’d take over.

No, I snarled, holding onto my human body, needing more. More pleasure, more pretty whines from Leander’s lips, more mates. I needed them. Verne and Lainsz.

That thought slapped me out of the pleasured daze. Fuck no, never that prick who wished I’d died. With any luck, he was outside dying.

CHAPTER 22

SADIE

Ipressed my face into Verne’s neck and let his scent choke out my hurt over Lainsz’s rejection.

“Sadie,” Leander said shakily, hands feathering over my hips. “Am I dead?”

A laugh dispelled the worst of my hurt and I sat up, pleased to see strands of blue-dipped brown hair stuck to his face, his cheeks flushed, eyes closed. When they blinked open to look at me, they were hazy. Completely pleasure-drunk.

I was powerless to stop my fingers brushing through his messy hair. “So pretty,” I murmured, the words guileless and unintentional. Leander’s expression softened, eyes clearing to focus on me. They’d been dark green earlier, but now I could see scattered stars within them, shards of brighter colour.

“How come our alpha gets all the kisses?” he asked, petulant. It shouldn’t have been cute. It was fucking adorable.

I ran my fingers through his hair, from his scalp to the ends, soothing tangles as I went. “You want a kiss?”

“So badly, my star,” he groaned.

I leaned closer, hovering over him without my lips touching, unsure where the words came from. “Say please. And make it convincing.”

Both Leander and Verne groaned.

“Deadly star,” Leander moaned, sounding as carnal as when he reached orgasm. “Please take mercy on me. I’ll die without a kiss. I’ll wither into a pile of bones and ashes if you don’t kiss me.”

The word ashes nearly threw me out of this and sent me back to the arena with Suri dead in the ash at my feet. But Leander sounded so fucking hot when he pleaded like this, and the way he was looking at me—supplicant, needy—kept me grounded.

“That sounds awfully dramatic,” I said in a tone I wasn’t familiar with. Had becoming a wolf made me a domme?

“I’m serious,” Leander breathed, his hands skimming up my sides, grazing my arms in a way that made me shudder. “Please, Sadie.”

Who was I to deny him when he begged so prettily? I meant to brush my lips to his, but the second we touched, Leander groaned and kissed me like a feral beast. Hot, messy, unapologetic; he kissed with all the desperation of Verne but none of the control. By the time we parted, my inner muscles were fluttering around his softening cock, dragging whimpers from his throat.

“Come here, my mate,” Verne murmured, so soft I knew human ears wouldn’t hear him. It was easier to accept my new body—new species?—like this, when my mind was cushioned in the cotton wool of arousal.
