All thoughts of stopping him from this unspeakable act were cut short when her mouth opened and the word more came out. “More,” she repeated with that same demanding tone. She somehow knew exactly what she wanted and was unsure of it at the same time. She only knew she didn’t want him to stop, especially not when she was so close.

Close to something she didn’t quite understand. Or didn’t until another few strokes of his tongue sent her spiraling over the edge. She couldn’t get enough air and didn’t think she required air any longer. She only needed this feeling. And him.

The intensity of the explosion subsided only slightly. Her breathing turned from gasping to merely panting. He propped himself up on his elbow and even in the dim light she could see the smugness in his grin.

She might have scolded him, though she felt he deserved to be smug for how well he’d made her feel.

“That was divine,” she said instead. “Magnifique.”

“And that was only the first course,” he promised.

Her eyes went wide.

She knew what was involved in relations between a man and woman. Her brother’s friends—mostly Julian when he’d been drunk—had taken great joy in telling her the details and making her cringe. She’d almost thought he made up such things, but no one had disputed what was said, only shook their heads as Gray called all of them out for mentioning such things in front of his sister.

Fortunately, the four men had made a pact to never dual with each other. No matter what the dishonor.

Celia would have to find some way to thank Julian for his bold description, for it gave her some reference of what was to come next. Celia felt Lord Desire’s hardness through the breeches he still wore. It was true then that this part of his body would infiltrate her own.

Before she could begin to worry over it, he got up from the bed and unfastened his falls. He’d already pulled off his boots, so he bent to remove his pants and stockings and when he stood again, Celia saw every bit of him.

She gasped.

“Oh, dear. I don’t think I could possibly accommodate… that.”

His smile shifted from gloating to complete concern for her.

“I am surely not so much larger than your husband?”

“I have no husband.”

“But in the past?”

“Non. I—I have never been married,” she lied.

“You are a maid?” he asked, pulling away from her. His blond brows pulled together. He was going to stop. She couldn’t allow it. Not when she was so close to getting what she wanted.

But she thought it would be easier to tell the truth at least in one aspect.

“Oui. But I do not wish to be any longer.” She spoke with the confidence that could only be feigned when using a fake French accent. “I am not some young miss. I am a woman and wish to know the things a woman should. If you think to dissuade me, you will not. And if you leave, I will only seek out another man to fulfill my needs.”

He pressed his lips together as if considering her words. Then he nodded.

“Very well. As long as you are sure, I am no one to contradict a woman who knows her own mind.” His smile was back as he looked down between them. “As for my size, I’m certain every untried woman feels the same at some point, yet it has been working fine for humans since the beginning of time. Shall we give it a go?”

This was the last step to becoming a worldly widow who would command her wishes upon the men of the ton.

“Yes,” she said. “Tell me what you wish me to do.”

She was avirgin.

He assumed she’d been a widow, knowing Lady Harrington generally invited widowed women to her parties. He’d expected this woman was newly widowed if this was her first visit, and the reason Lady Harrington claimed she was shy.

But a virgin?

Still, who was he to try to convince her she was making a mistake? It wasn’t as if the woman had mistakenly wandered in from the street and up to this room unknowing of what was to happen here.
