“Aye. He wasn’t as pleased to meet me.”

She placed her hand on his cheek. “It’s his loss. You’re the most wonderful man I’ve ever met.” After another long kiss, she pulled away. “I’ll see you when you get home.”

Before she got away, he pulled her close once again, his lips by her ear. “Make arrangements for the children. I plan to have you screaming my name all night.”

A beautiful blush tinged her cheeks. “And which name will I be screaming? Alexander or Liam?”

He shrugged. “As long as I’m inside you, it makes no difference. I’ll not be confused who you mean.” He winked at her.

She gave him a playful smack and shook her head.

“Perhaps if my two names are confusing, you could just call me the greatest lover in all the lands.” Another painless slap, but he wasn’t near done teasing her and making her blush. “If you could really belt it out, so the whole castle knows— Ow.” She’d found his weakness when she gave his nipple a pinch.

They laughed together and he pulled away only far enough to rest his forehead against hers. “I’m someone, Ev.”

“You were already someone.”

“Aye. But now I have a title—heir—that makes me someone worthy of you.”

Her smile dropped away, and she shook her head. “I don’t care about any title aside from husband, or father of my children.” She gave him a naughty smile. “Perhaps, greatest lover in all the lands.”

He laughed at her jest.

“I love you, Liam—or Alexander. You.” She poked him in the chest to make it clear.

“Perhaps tonight when I’m loving you, you could scream out my newest title.”

She rolled her eyes. “And what is that? These names get longer and longer, I’ll not be able to remember them.”

He brushed a lock of hair back from her face. “Luckiest man in all the world.”

Her smile turned shy. “I’m happy you think so. I wasn’t pleasant when we first married.”

“Aye, that’s why I came up with a title for you.”

“I don’t think I want to hear this.”

“It’s fine. I plan to tell ye anyway.” He rubbed his nose against hers. “The feisty wench I love above all others.”

“Ooh. I do like that last part.”

…

Evelyn couldn’t help laughing at her husband. She’d thought today would be the worst of her life, but it turned out to be one of the happiest.

“You said you loved me,” Liam said smugly.

He didn’t seem in any hurry to leave, and she’d gladly spend the rest of the day right there with him. The men heading for the castle held no interest. Especially the laird of the Stewarts. Liam was most important to her.

“I should have told you long before now. Telling you today makes it seem like I’m trying to outshine the event of you meeting your father for the first time.”

“I don’t know him. I don’t know what he’ll want from me. But I know that whatever it is, I can handle it better because I know you love me.”

His smile faded as he looked up at the sky. “I have many decisions before me.” He squinted into the sun.

“I have no doubt at all that you’ll do what is best for our family. I will stand beside you.”

He linked their fingers together and kissed the back of her hand as they made their way to their horses.
