“You should have woken me up if you wanted to play,” the woman said, standing at the doorway. As before, Emma marveled at her appearance. The slim brunette seemed so completely … normal. “You know I like to watch.”
Ford raised his hands to appease her. “No playing yet, dear,” he said. “I’m just going to—”
And then Emma was screaming. Her throat became raw. She didn’t feel like she had any physical control over the sound.
Suddenly Ford was flush against her. She felt the strength in his hard body. He pushed something into her mouth. It was big and round. Emma tried to spit it out, knowing it would choke her, but Ford was much stronger. He pushed and pushed until something clicked behind her head.
What the hell—
“Relax, Emma, dear. You’ve never seen a ball gag before?” He shook her lightly. “There. You can still breathe. In and out. Gently does it. There you are,” he said, sounding pleased.
And Emma found she could breathe—just about—if she ignored the painful way in which the gag stretched her mouth open.
Ford’s eyes glimmered with enjoyment. Emma looked away from him. He was a demon. Her eyes searched for the woman, who still stood by the doorway. Emma begged her with her eyes, but the woman seemed frozen in place.
“Come on, Stephen,” she finally said. “Come back to bed.”
Ford gave Emma’s body one final squeeze, making sure she felt his hard-on as he did so. Emma sat there in the dark, shaking like a leaf, long after the door had closed again.
Chapter 22
Rob
“We just caught a bit of good luck,” Lorraine said from the doorway.
It wasn’t so much her words as her tone that had Rob looking up from the stolen car records he’d been poring over—Lorraine sounded almost out of breath with excitement.
“A traffic camera picked them up.” She was holding her tablet in her hand. Rob nearly jumped over the desk to reach her.
“Are you sure?” he said. His voice sounded shaky to his ears. He hoped he was the only one who could hear.
“Not sure, but I think it’s her. It’s a traffic light camera at the edge of town. This car went by just minutes after Emma disappeared from the hospital.”
Rob caught sight of the nondescript old sedan. It was hard to tell the color in a black and white image, but probably some kind of beige or light brown. He looked closely at the driver.
“But that’s … a woman driving,” Rob said then stopped himself. “Fuck.”
Robin.
Ford’s partner is a woman.
We’ve all been looking for a man.
Rob clutched the tablet.
“Fuck indeed,” Lorraine said, nodding her head in agreement.
“That would explain how they tricked Emma into going with them.”
“I was thinking the same thing.”
“Where did this car go afterward?” Rob said.
“The car turned east at the next intersection. Then we lost it.”
It was exactly the same place Rob had driven by the night before. Rob felt a frisson of excitement.
“East, you say?”
