Her core tensed in intense arousal. She placed her thumb on the inside of the elastic and tugged down. Her thumb brushed against her clit.
“Don’t touch yourself. That’s my prerogative.”
He turned her around and pushed her onto her knees on the bed. “Elbows on the bed,” he said. The position made her ass rise high on the bed. “I’ve dreamed of this,” he whispered, caressing her ass.
She wriggled it provocatively and wasn’t disappointed when he spanked her.
“Please…” she asked, her voice a throaty whisper.
“Please what?” he asked, striking her cheek again.
“You said you needed to fuck me… so do it.”
“I will,” he whispered. “When I’m good and ready.” He spanked her a couple more times then placed his index finger at her entrance.
“You’re so hot. So wet for me.”
She whimpered. He entered her in one slow, delicious stroke.
“Don’t come until I tell you,” he demanded, and her insides clenched in response. She was so close.
Chapter 20
Jake
Saoirse’s side of the bed was cold when he woke up. In an earlier life, before the Remur invasion, he’d often woken up alone in bed after spending the night with a lover. He favored casual no strings attached relationships, where either party might wake up early and leave and the other one wouldn’t hold it against them. Now, for the first time in his life, the empty space beside him in bed bothered him.
He’d pondered whether their first time together had been a fluke, but tonight had been even more amazing. She was that rare kind of submissive who understood the power her submission gave her, and he couldn’t get enough of her.
He ran his hands through his hair, which was getting too long. It reached way past the collar of his shirt now. He was going to have to cut it soon or end up tying it back in a damn ponytail.
He made his way quickly downstairs, listening out for Saoirse’s voice, but there was nobody about. On the kitchen table, he saw a white envelope. His heartbeat sped up. He knew, before even getting close enough to read it, that it would be his name on the front.
He sat down heavily on the table and brought out a single sheet, which had been folded neatly in four to fit the envelope.
Dear Jake,
I almost woke you up last night but couldn’t risk you not understanding. Javier came across a Remur recording yesterday. They’ve been broadcasting it on all our frequencies for the last few days. I lied when I told him I didn’t understand any of it. I understood a few words, including “red,” “woman,” and “water.” I think the aliens are looking for me. Please tell Javier I’m sorry I lied to him. I’m sorry I lied to you too, by omission, but any time I spend with you endangers everyone, including Eva’s baby.
I’m taking the bike they found yesterday in town and one of the shortwave radios. I will send out a message tonight so the Remur know we’re not together any longer.
Please head on to Brussels.
In absentia lucis, Tenebrae vincunt.
Saoirse
Sawyer punched the table with his fist. It was solid wood and only succeeded in hurting his hand. At least the pain seemed to kickstart his brain into action.
“Storme! Prado! Meir!” he boomed, running out of the kitchen and into the main hallway. His voice reverberated against the tall ceiling. “Kopf! Zander! Where the hell is everyone?”
Storme bounded down the stairs, followed closely by Eva. Prado and Meir ran in from another room, laser guns at the ready. Kopf ushered Alix ahead of him. She had a bewildered expression on her face. Meir checked the sensors on his small screen and shook his head, looking uncomprehendingly at Sawyer.
“The alarm hasn’t been tripped,” he confirmed.
“What’s going on, Jake?” Storme asked. His hand was firmly entwined in Eva’s.
Sawyer leaned back against the wall. Everybody was there. Everybody except for Saoirse. Even after reading her note, a part of him had somehow still hoped to see her form appear. He blinked away a strange pressure behind his eyeballs.
